HoA Members support 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The Zonta Club of Tortola held a symbolic pinning ceremony at the House of Assembly for its members.
Symbolises solidarity with the global campaign
The Speaker of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Corine N. George-Massicote, stated: “This brief and informal pinning ceremony, where each Member received an orange pin, symbolises our solidarity with the global campaign led by Zonta International. I am honoured to support this meaningful initiative and hopeful that it will become an annual tradition in the House of Assembly, strengthening our collective commitment as leaders of the Virgin Islands to end violence against women and girls.”
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign runs from November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. Launched in 1991 by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership, this campaign is observed in over 180 countries worldwide.
Zonta leads initiative
Each year, Zonta International leads the initiative in the Virgin Islands, which is being held under the theme “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women,” promoting the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence through advocacy, education, and community engagement.
The orange ribbon worn during the campaign serves as a symbol of this commitment.
