ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands has noted the “public interest and concern” expressed following media coverage, particularly regarding compensation for elected officials.

Local media houses had a field day reporting on September 17, 2025, that elected officials and Members of the House of Assembly approved a salary increase for themselves in late 2023.

According to the 2024 Audit Report laid in the House of Assembly (HoA) on September 16, 2025, the 119% overall salary increase more than doubled the existing emoluments from $681,000 to $1,490,652, and required an additional $809,652 in the budget.

Some members of the public have disapproved of the increase while some have stated while the increase is drastic, HoA members are still being paid less than some public servants.

Transparency, accountability, & proper due process

“With the report now officially before the House, Members will undertake a thorough review of its findings, engage in detailed discussions, and provide a formal response consistent with established parliamentary procedures.

“The House reiterates its dedication to transparency, accountability, and proper due process,” a statement from the HoA on September 17, 2025, read.

The HoA further stated that an official response, inclusive of comprehensive information for the public, will be issued in due course.

“The House appeals for the patience of the people of the Virgin Islands as the matter proceeds through the appropriate parliamentary channels and assures that the concerns raised will be addressed.”

The house cannot wright anything. Someone in the house is who wrote it. Call names.

Tell me how they are going to review a matter that they passed and approved in the first place. This needs an independent investigation without the 13 members involved. All the news about Bank of Asia gone under the rug, the 7 million dollar plane under the rug…there is absolutely no accountability, no responsibility…

The entire salary review needs to be revised. The review seems to keep everyone at about the same salary. That includes people with degrees and those without. A 5000-10,000 difference is not big enough between managers and employees' salaries. whoever decided that is stupid. Some people going home very happy and don't do a thing at work. The politician's salary is not the problem. Compared to private sector, those salaries for politicians are small.

Greed. Some barely making ends meet. Some get a 3% raise after 20 years. This government should be shame. If not, then there is something wrong with yiur morals.
