HoA adjourned abruptly; Next meeting date unknown

The HoA Sitting was to start around the same time that the United Kingdom's House of Commons voted against the Territory’s interest in the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Bill 2018, with amendments to make selected Overseas Territory’s offshore registry public, a move opposed by the Smith Administration.
Instead the Premier, Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL), asked for an adjournment of the HoA, and part of his day was to take a call sitting next to Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert from a very senior official from the British Home Office.
Our newsroom was not able to obtain information on the call, as the Governor’s Office did not respond to queries up to publication time.
However, HoA Members used the time to have discussions yesterday May 1, 2018 on the fallout of the vote by the British Parliament.
No date has been set for a new Sitting where the agenda items will include answers to questions posed by the two members of the Opposition.
Governor is with VI
Meanwhile, Governor Jaspert, a British national who represents Queen Elizabeth II and the UK Government in the British Overseas Territory of the Virgin Islands, said “Very disappointing news in UK Parliament on public registers for the Overseas Territories.”
In a tweeter message he spoke about the need for his country “to support the BVI's well-regulated financial services, as we continue our hurricane recovery.”
