HLSCC & St. Georges share top spot in Culture Game show
The overall winner prize was shared between Shanna Hucey, a student of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and Megan Bhagwandas, a student of St. Georges school.
The game show dubbed, 'The VI Culture Grill Game Show', took place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. on ZBVI Radio, from March 29 - April 30, 2012.
Vice President of the BVI Investment Club, Mrs. Margaret Penn, in addressing the students said they made her so proud and thanked them for making Culture Grill so successful.
"You the participants made our efforts a great success and without you we could not have made it.”
Producers of the show, who are also members of the BVI Investment Club, said the show was designed to inspire Secondary and College students to research and appreciate the history and culture of the VI.
Culture Grill hosted participants from the St. Georges High School, Cedar International High School, Elmore Stoutt High School and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
In speaking with Mrs. Penn in regards to the game show, she said that there is no specific time when the next show will be hosted, but this will not be their last.
"The kids are very excited about the show, people in the community have also called and told us they enjoyed the show, so we definitely will do it again."
Mrs. Penn said the idea of the show has been germinating for several years among herself and a few other members. "We tried to plan a game many times over the years, but this year we saw it fit to host this game show along with our 20 years celebration."
She said one of the reasons for the game show is because there are not many schools in the VI that teaches the history and culture of the Virgin Islands. "We saw the need to emphasize the history and culture of the country so that people can appreciate their lives and understand the relevance and the significance of some of the historical sites etc."
Overall winner of the show, Ms. Hucey said she feels good seeing all her hard work paid off and in the long run being the winner of the show.
Ms. Hucey and Ms. Bhagwandas both won a gift certificate from CCT, a Cell Phone, and an Ipad.
