ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – It was a history making session today, Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the continuation of the 6th Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 3rd House of Assembly (HoA).

With Speaker of the HoA, Honourable Ingrid A. Moses on vacation, and Deputy Speaker, Honourable Delores Christopher (R5) on sick leave, Junior Minister for Tourism, Honourable Archibald C. Christian (AL), was sworn in as the Acting Speaker.

It was the first time in recent memory that both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker were away from the Territory at the same time.

While most members were caught slipping up at times, saying “Madam Speaker” instead of “Mr Speaker,” most legislators give Hon Christian ‘kudos,’ on doing a "good job" with his short lived appointment.

With Hon Christian’s announcement to his ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), that he will not seek reelection after two terms, maybe the next government could consider him as a contender for House Speaker, as he seems very comfortable in the chair.

    Congrats Archi. You should have hold the position of deputy speaker from the onset, but seeing the Delores was a stalwart and they couldn’t give her a ministry they had to reward her with something. Hence she was made DS
