ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Settled atmospheric conditions in association with the Atlantic high-pressure system coupled with low moisture levels across the region will continue to restrict significant showers in the Virgin Islands for today, March 30, 2024.

A high surf advisory is a warning that has been issued by national weather services to warn coastal communities and beachgoers that large ocean waves and dangerous swimming and surf conditions are expected.

Locations to be affected: Reefs and exposed northern and north-facing coastlines with relatively shallow, gently to moderately sloping, nearshore areas.

Weather today: Sunny and warm conditions.

Weather tonight: Mostly fair with a 20 per cent or slight chance of showers.

Winds: North-northeast at 7 to 22 km/h or 5 to 14 mph.

Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres or 3 to 5 feet.

According to DDM, rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and near structures such as groins, jetties and piers.

"If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help," DDM advised.
