ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A series of videos that have been circulating on social media appear to show a male teacher and a male student of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) armed with pieces of wood and engaging in a verbal altercation filled with expletives in the presence of other students.

It remains unclear when and where the videos were taken and when Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reached out to the Principal of ESHS, Ms Vanessa K. Garraway, no response was received up to publication time.

In one of the videos, the duo can be heard saying:

Teacher: "I am not going to entertain you, meh not have time for you."

Student: "Is like you like man or something dog.”

Teacher: "No, I like your mother!"

The student was then mumbling before accosting the teacher to which the teacher responded, “Get out of my face young man… I like your mother, I like man,” while trying to keep the student at bay.

Altercation got heated!

In another video seen by our news center, the teacher can be heard calling the student disrespectful, in what appeared to be a continuation of the verbal confrontation.

Teacher: "Go ahead, you are disrespectful"

Student: "You’re a [expletive] faggot!"

Teacher: "That’s you, your father know about that too"

The two then continued the verbal altercation, with the teacher threatening the student to send him to prison.

Student: “You can send me to prison all the [expletive] you want, I don’t give a [expletive], [expletive] you!"

Minister of Education, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) could not be reached to ascertain whether he was aware of the video and or if any disciplinary actions were taken against the two.

This is crazy. I'm not about the actions of either parties involved but I will say both needed to know their place. First the teacher should have not allowed himself to get work up over whatever cause the altercation. Secondly the student have no respect, you going watch a big man and try disrespect him like that. Both wrong but lord it ruff

The situation is unfortunate. It is however, not news worthy. Stop reporting every negative incident that happens at the school. It is ok to write about the many positives too.

      @ Spoiled from home.
You are correct when you said, "Thats the same way they behave on the Job. Curse and talk to the boss anyhow". As a supervisor I experienced disrespect from a young man on the job. He had no respect for me either the manager. Very rude young man.

How, where and when the event occurred does not matter more than who is involved. Firstly, teachers are to be trained in sociology, physiology, psychology and youth development work , either of those will help them master self control. Teachers , those children are going to grow up with what you give to them. They are already battling a lot at home.

If you give them love they will share love, if you give them hate , they will share hate. When you pick up a stick, because the student armed himself with a stick, you think that’s the best method. You are dead wrong ! Period. You all think them children bad , their a minions compare to some in the UK.

The BVI community is a seriously religious community, they believe in working with people , family, youth, children. So, let’s get up and support our school to gain a better understanding of this life, where are they men in this community? What happened to the big brother, big sister program, bring it back and let’s get the help students need to survive.

The next generation cannot go out like school become a war zone. Let’s love our young people now and let’s do it together.

Well honestly yes people have their limit as some may say the teacher probably reached his but you know as a teacher things like this happens all the time so where Is the professionalism no matter how rude or disrespectful a student gets go to higher authority don't answer back and go down to that level then you become just as bad as the student.

tje students behave like this on a regular. In my 25 years I have had 2 confrontations with students and nothing was done about them after reporting it. The teacher had all.right to put that rude punk in his place and protect himself. I know this tea her for years and he would only go to extreme if it was a dangerous situation.
