VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Police on Virgin Gorda reportedly had to be called in following a verbal exchange between an Environmental Health Officer and a resident over alleged breach of quarantine protocols by someone who recently entered the Territory after the borders were partially reopened.

All persons currently entering the Territory are required to undergo 14 days of quarantine at a Government-approved facility.

Alleged quarantine protocol breach

According to reports reaching our newsroom, the health officer had visited a home following a report from a security guard placed there for someone quarantined at that location that a member of the home was allowing her boyfriend to sleep over and leave daily, against the stipulations.

Our newsroom understands that when the home was initially inspected the “boyfriend” was not listed as a member of the home.

Calls between the sister of the quarantined person and the Health Officer on the matter were described as heated, leading to the health officer having to visit the home on June 9, 2020.

It is alleged that the health officer then resorted to using threatening language, causing a report to be made to police.

Police reportedly let the health officer off with a warning and told her not to visit the home where the person is being quarantined.

Her job as a health officer is to visit the home of the quarantined person. How can the police stop her from doing her job?. Now who is going to check on this quarantined person?

The correct action would be to charge the quarantined person with violating quarantine and move that person to the One Stop Mall hotel/prison for the remainder of the 14 day quarantine. Next the visiting boyfriend needs to be taken into custody and quarantined at the same hotel/prison for 14 days. Additionally both persons need to be tested for the virus now.

I agree with most of your statement. Since they can't comply and police telling the health officer they can't do their job, then move the individual and her boyfriend to a Government facility for 14 days. I been lock down for too long already, they better don't make us have a repeat.

The entire family now has to quarantine. I am disappointed by the sister of the quarantined individual. VG is small. Everybody knows your business. For a teacher who is the sister of the quarantined person to not set an example is disheartening. The officer was doing her job and was totally disrespected by this teacher and while not condoning her behavior the family knows they breached the protocol and should now have to stay in for 14 days. Who knows if the quarantined person will not come down with COVID 19?? We must take every precaution. Don't be so irresponsible Teacher C

What about the allegation made by the Security Guard? You are talking about public safety. No wonder people are afraid to enforce the laws here in this place.

I wish the family would sue all y’all conniving, hypocrites! Y’all ALWAYS watching this family and always aiming to victimize them. What is it? Because both of those girls are successful? Breach which quarantine? That health officer is disrespectful. I am waiting patiently for the outcome of this, because I know the depth of this situation and I refuse to be silent! As Barry say, “You will hear!” How many families breached the quarantine? They were saying a lady even went to the bank after she came off the plane. Her sister hasn’t breached or the family breached! But once it’s them? Y’all quick to judge. It’s evident that y’all envy and grudge this family, especially the oldest child. I am sick and fed up and it’s not even my family being a target. You people that live in the BVI and on VG? EVIL! May God bless y’all for real!!

this is bad for the BVI and shows the selfishness of the individuals..they should ve made an example of...charged accordingly..boyfriend n all.
what happened to the " security " guard.

but it prooves a point doesnt it...black/ white/ up island / down island....makes not a jot of differnece...just goes to show how blame can be conviniently laid at peoples feet if they in the minority or not " from here" but in the end...we all have the same blood pumping through our veins....so next time you want to blame someone who is not from herr....just take a closer look to home.
    respectfully submitted.
