NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- Ninth District Representative and Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Vincent O. Wheatley is encouraging everyone to come out and support the annual Algernon ‘Gunny’ George Memorial Walk tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, 2025.

“We do it once a year, I call it the Big Walk, it was renamed in honour of Algernon, who [had] the bar at the starting point in North Sound,” Hon Wheatley told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

The walk will begin at Gunny’s Bar in North Sound and will end at Ciboney Centre for Excellence.

Come out and join

The walk is said to honour Mr George, who embodies the spirit of community, resilience and togetherness which has always been at the heart of the Ninth District.

Everyone, therefore, is being urged to attend and support, whether they knew Mr George or not.

“Just come out and join us,” Hon Wheatley said.

He added that this walk is also part of his commitment as Minister for Health.

This commitment is to “encourage people to exercise more in an effort to reduce non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, as we are also observing Diabetes Awareness Month”.
