Health Minister Hon Carvin Malone takes VI’s first COVID-19 jab
The first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca (AZD1222) COVID-19 vaccine was delivered this morning, February 11, 2021, after 9:00 am in a ceremony aired live across social media and radio.
'Let's get it on'- Hon Malone
“Let’s get it on,” were the words of Hon Malone after taking the vaccine in a short process that included the testing of his blood pressure and sterilisation of the point of entry for the vaccine on the left arm.
The Minister is scheduled to take his second dose of the vaccine in 6 weeks, on March 26, 2021, given that two doses of the vaccine are required for the Oxford-AstraZeneca variety.
Coming in second for vaccination was new Governor, John J. Rankin, CMG in a short process that took seconds to complete. Governor Rankin said he felt fine and hoped that many people as possible take the vaccine and that he was looking forward to a game of tennis later.
HoA members step forward
Others to receive the vaccine this morning were a nervous House of Assembly (HoA) Speaker, Hon Julian Willock, who admitted he was afraid of needles and had to be calmed by Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1); Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), Fourth District Representative Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), along with Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), Chief Medical Officers Dr Irad Potter and Dr Michael E. Georges as well as the wife of Hon Malone.
JTV Journalist Cathy O. Richards also volunteered to be the first female in the territory to get vaccinated and said she was encouraged to do so based on the courage of those before her.
Radio journalist Zan Lewis, who was more interested in knowing why Premier Fahie did not get vaccinated today, was also offered an opportunity to get his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine but declined.
Premier Fahie has said he is allowing frontline workers to get vaccinated before he takes his jab next week.
Today marks the official start of the government's vaccination programme where members of the public will first have to register via the website that has been set up for that purpose.

Also, the website doesn't advise minors NOT to take the vaccine, although it has not yet been approved for minors.
Parents who make their child take this, say goodbye to any grandkids.
South African health officials said Sunday they're pausing the country's rollout of AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine after a study showed it offered reduced protection from the Covid-19 variant first identified there.
During a briefing on Sunday, South Africa Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize said the hold would be temporary while scientists figure out how to most effectively deploy the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Early data released Sunday suggest two doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine provided only "minimal protection" against mild and moderate Covid-19 from the variant first identified in South Africa.
The study, which has not been released, included about 2,000 volunteers who were an average of 31 years old; about half received the vaccine and half received a placebo, which does nothing.
Viral neutralization against the B.1.351 variant was "substantially reduced" when compared to the earlier coronavirus strain, researchers said in a news release. The vaccine's efficacy against severe Covid-19, hospitalization and death were not assessed.
Details of the study by researchers from South Africa's University of Witwatersrand and others, as well as from the University of Oxford, were shared in a press release. The results have been submitted for peer-review and a preprint will be released soon, Oxford said.
In a statement on Sunday, an AstraZeneca spokeserson said the company is "working closely with the South African Ministry of Health on how best to support the evaluation against severe disease of the B.1.351 variant, and start to bring this vaccine to the South African people should it prove to be successful."
The statement said the company believes its vaccine will still protect against severe disease from the new B.1.351 variant, particularly when the dosing interval is eight to 12 weeks.
In a previous statement, the company said it is working with Oxford University to adapt the vaccine against the B.1.351 variant so "it is ready for Autumn delivery should it be needed."
On Sunday, Maria Van Kerkhove, World Health Organization's technical lead for Covid-19, said the WHO's independent vaccine panel will meet Monday to discuss the AstraZeneca vaccine and what the new study means for vaccines going forward.
Van Kerkhove said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that "some preliminary studies suggesting reduced efficacy. But again, those studies aren't fully published yet."
She added that it's critical to have more than one safe and effective vaccine: "We cannot rely on only one product."
I can't say this ENOUGH sigh let the C****S take it 1st and monitor them. If they live then cool we will consider, If they die they die. We save our people.
General Precautions
Persons administering vaccinations should follow appropriate precautions to minimize risk for disease exposure and spread. Hands should be cleansed with an alcohol-based waterless antiseptic hand rub or washed with soap and water before preparing vaccines for administration and between each patient contact (1). Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations do not require gloves to be worn when administering vaccinations, unless persons administering vaccinations have open lesions on their hands or are likely to come into contact with a patient’s body fluids (2). If worn, gloves should be changed between patients.

Do you ignorant people realize these ships are at port emitting smoke for weeks at a time rather than a few hours...they do not leave same day.
How many persons in the BVI have serious health issues to the point of sudden deaths...one too many. More and more children have become ill and some fighting for their lives while others have passed away.
These discussions should not be a laughing matter but there’ll always be a few who want to show their backsides.
With that being said, take your health seriously and obtain information about the vaccine before running to get it simply because it’s what most are doing though it’s typical of a number of people in the Territory who follow and copy everything that’s trending.
There are too many uncertainties with the vaccine, which is still under review.
As I said a month ago.. I will wait also, like our great leader.
