Comprehensive overhaul since August

Contractors from Florida Aqua Store began work on  August 6, 2026, carrying out a comprehensive overhaul that included the complete removal and replacement of the reservoir floor panels, replacement of all floor and wall bolts, cleaning and resealing of the interior, sanitisation of the structure, and resealing of the exterior. Minister Rymer confirmed that the physical rehabilitation is complete and that final preparations are now underway before the reservoir returns to full operational service.

New monitoring system to improve oversight

According to a government press release, a key upgrade is the installation of a new water-level gauge and monitoring system. “A new water-level gauge and monitoring system has been installed. This will allow operators to observe the water levels from outside the reservoir and accurately determine the volume of water being stored at any given time,” Minister Rymer said.

He commended the contractors and technical teams for their work over the past several weeks as the government continues restoring critical water infrastructure across the Territory.

Part of wider reservoir upgrade programme

The Hannah Hill Reservoir is the first of five reservoirs across the Territory earmarked for repairs, including Minton Hill on Virgin Gorda. Smith-Maduro, described the programme as a significant investment in the Territory’s water infrastructure and part of ongoing efforts to improve water reliability and resilience.

“The rehabilitation of our reservoirs is a critical component of strengthening the Territory’s water network and improving service delivery to residents,” Mrs Smith-Maduro said. “These investments will enhance storage capacity, improve operational efficiency, and support a more reliable water supply system for our communities.”

Service restoration for higher-elevation residents

Minister Rymer said residents in higher-elevation areas who experienced interruptions during the rehabilitation period can expect gradual restoration of service as the reservoir is refilled and recommissioned. “We recognise that the temporary closure of the reservoir for these essential repairs has affected customers, particularly those living in higher elevations who have not been receiving a consistent water supply,” he said. “As the reservoir is refilled and recommissioned, we anticipate that service to these areas will be restored, and we thank residents for their patience and understanding while these critical infrastructure improvements were carried out.”

The release added that following completion at Hannah Hill, work will move to the Sabbath Hill Reservoir as the programme to upgrade and strengthen the Territory’s water storage infrastructure continues.

It further stated that, in parallel, significant upgrades to the distribution network have already been completed, including replacement of sections of the water transmission line with 12-inch HDPE pipes. Installation of pressure-reducing valves along the Ridge Road corridor is also ongoing, with four valve chambers currently being installed between Diamond Estate and Chalwell Estate.
