Guyanese singer ‘Lola Doll’ who served time in VI prison shot multiple times

According to reports reaching our News Centre, the popular local singer and social media star, Lollita Callender, aka ‘Lola Doll’, 33, came under fire from a lone gunman who approached on a motorcycle as she was parking her car in the driveway.
The incident reportedly took place just after 11:00 PM.
News outlets in Guyana reported that multiple gunshots were heard, and when neighbours and family members rushed outside, Callender was seen slumped in her car and badly bleeding.
Two relatives told the local media they jumped into the car and drove it with the injured woman to the Georgetown Hospital where she was rushed into the emergency room in a critical condition.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement said the singer was shot to the neck, face, hands and right leg.
Prison sentence in VI
Callender was once a resident in the Virgin Islands until she fell afoul of the law in 2019, when she was charged with Conspiracy to Impersonate on April 26, 2019.
She had appeared before the Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail in the amount of $60,000, with $20,000 being cash.
Callender, who was once married to a Skelton in the VI, was remanded to Her Majesty's Prison after she was unable to post bail.
Her attorney, Stephen R. Daniels, had subsequently applied for a No Case Submission, but this was denied by the courts, and the matter went to trial, where the defendant was found guilty.
A sentencing of 9 months imprisonment was handed down by Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste-DaBreo on June 26, 2019.
Some 6 persons had testified on behalf of the Prosecution, while the Defence had no witnesses.
‘Lola Doll’ feared for her life
In a Facebook Live posted just days before the shooting, Callender appeared visibly distressed and spoke about the ongoing threats she is facing for her life. She told her followers that people want to kill her, claiming that her own family members don’t want her alive.
She added that she felt a responsibility to let her fans know what was happening, saying she lived in a country where everyone doesn’t get justice.
“People want killing me… I got to let my fans know what going on,” she said in the video, adding that she believed she lived in a country “where you don’t get justice.”
