Guyanese granted $10k bail for alleged assault
King, unrepresented at his first appearance at court today, pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
According to the allegations read by Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was driving his Mitsubishi vehicle along the Little Dix public road on the said day and was proceeding in the direction of Greenland while being accompanied by his wife and daughter.
It is further alleged that upon reaching Long Look, it was observed that the defendant’s vehicle proceeded from Long Look without stopping. The defendant’s driving, according to the allegations, almost caused a collision before both vehicles came to a halt.
The defendant, currently a resident of Greenland, then allegedly approached the VC and pulled him from his car before punching him to his face. The VC reportedly received injuries as a result of the alleged assault.
A report was subsequently made to Police after which the defendant was later interviewed by Police on April 12, 2012. The defendant allegedly said following the incident that the VC had gotten out of his vehicle and insulted the defendant’s daughter and as a result, he got upset and allegedly punched his face.
King was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with one signed surety and asked to return to court on March 6, 2013.
