Guyana captures the crown @ Miss Caribbean Culture
For the first time, the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen title has made its way to Guyana, with twenty-year-old Shemina Peroune taking the crown, defeating Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Jada Ross, in first place, and Miss St. Thomas, USVI Lamonee Morris in second place.
The show, which returned to St Kitts and Nevis on August 7, after three years owing to COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions, featured nine delegates from across the region, including reigning Miss Dominica, Adicia Burton.
However, when the top five who would advance to the questions and answers segment were released following the four rounds of competition, Dominica was one of the four who failed to find favour with the judges, therefore ending her participation in the contest.
The five finalists included Miss St. Thomas Lamonee Morris, Miss Guyana Shemina Peroune, Miss St. Croix Tatyana Britney Massiah, Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Jada Ross, and Miss Trinidad and Tobago Chronna Khan.
When the results were read shortly before 2 a.m. the awards in the non-judged category went to Trinidad and Tobago who captured Miss Congeniality; Miss Photogenic went to Miss Guyana, while Miss St Thomas took home the award for Best Promotional Video.
In the judged segment, Best Interview went to Miss Guyana, Shemina Peroune; Best Talent Miss St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Jada Ross; Best Swimwear, Miss St. Croix Tatyana Britney Massiah; Best Evening Wear, Miss St. Thomas Lamonee Morris and Best Question and Answer Segment – Miss Trinidad and Tobago Chronna Khan.
The prestigious title was last captured by Dominica in 2017, by Jade Romain.
The competition marked Dominica’s reigning queen’s second participation in a regional pageant, the first being the Miss Jaycee pageant, in which she emerged as first runner-up with host country Antigua and Barbuda taking the title on July 31.
