Guy Lester Malone named new Chief Executive of the TRC

Guy Malone is now the TRC's new Chief Executive Officer.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Yesterday Cabinet approved the appointment of Mr. Guy Lester Malone as the Chief Executive Officer of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) for a period of three (3) years effective 1 March 2012.

As Chief Executive Officer of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Mr. Malone will be responsible for the day-to-day management, administration and operation of the Commission and the supervision of its staff. He will also be responsible for the implementation of decisions made by the Board, among other responsibilities.

Yesterday Cabinet approved the appointment of Mr. Guy Lester Malone as the Chief Executive Officer of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) for a period of three (3) years effective 1 March 2012.

Mr. Malone brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the post having served government in the area of telecommunications for the past 32 years. During his tenure he worked in various related positions within the Ministry of Communications and Works where he rose to the rank of Director of Telecommunications before moving to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission as the Technical and Operations Director. Mr. Malone also executed the duties of Chief Executive Officer on numerous occasions in an acting capacity and was one of the driving forces behind the liberalization of the telecommunications market in the BVI in 2005.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool told the Department of Information and Public Relations that “As a result of Mr. Malone’s dedication, much has been done under his stewardship to advance the telecommunications regulatory environment to the respected status it now enjoys,” adding that he has also represented the Territory over the years at several regional and international meetings and conferences, including his recent attendance and the GSMA World Mobile Congress in Barcelona Spain where he was party to some critical sector-related interventions on the Territory’s behalf.

Mr. Malone is a graduate of Brunnel College of Technology in the United Kingdom where he was awarded a degree in Communications Electronics Engineering in 1990. He also holds a diploma in Telecommunications Management Studies from Bailbrook College in Barth, England.

As the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Malone has pledged his ongoing commitment to ensuring that further growth is experienced in the telecommunications sector for the economic benefit of the Territory as a whole.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool, is pleased to see Mr. Malone assume the post of Chief Executive Officer and wishes him well in his new assignment. “He has paid his dues through his hard work and dedication and I have no doubt that he possesses the skills needed to lead this organization in the right direction,” Minister Vanterpool affirmed.

The appointment of Mr. Malone fills the void that was created when the former CEO, Mr. Tomas Lamanauskas’ contract expired in May 2011.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in the Virgin Islands.
