ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Government of the Virgin Islands has reappointed Mr Guy L. Malone as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) for a period of two years, effective March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2027.

Mr Malone's reappointment was made in accordance with Section 12 (1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2006, during a meeting chaired by His Excellency, Governor Daniel Pruce, on March 13, 2025, at the Premier's Conference Room.

This information was disclosed in a post-meeting statement from the Cabinet Office on June 17, 2025.

Sources indicate that Mr Malone has had his contract extended previously, including for a two-year period in 2019.

He was initially appointed to the position in March 2012, just months after the National Democratic Party (NDP) took office in 2011.

The TRC is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in the Virgin Islands.

It is about time that the BVI allows Starlink to be used in the BVI. Every other country allows the use of Starlink.

Nobody is stopping you from purchasing a Starlink kit. The government can’t foot the bill for everything.

I can purchase a Starlink kit, bring it to the BVI, but Starlink only allows 2 months of use in a country that has not approved its use.
