NEW YORK, USA- A gunman wearing a gas mask set off a smoke bomb and opened fire in a New York subway car on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, injuring 16 people and throwing the morning commute into chaos, officials said, in the latest violence in the city's transit system.

According to Reuters, the gunman, who has not yet been identified, shot 10 people before fleeing the station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood. At least six others were injured in the attack.

"We will not allow New Yorkers to be terrorised even by a single individual," said Mayor Eric Adams in a video statement. "NYPD is searching for the suspect at large, and we will find him."

Adams, who is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, said police have not found any live explosive devices, but the assailant detonated smoke bombs to "cause havoc."

What happened during the NYC subway shooting?

As a Manhattan-bound N train waited to enter the 36th Street station during rush hour before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man put on a gas mask, took a cannister out of his bag and opened it on the train, filling the train car with smoke, said New York City Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell.

The man then opened fire, striking multiple people on the subway and on the platform.

Videos from the scene shared on social media show the smoke-filled train car as passengers flee, some limping off the train. Other videos show bloodied passengers lying on the train platform.

Police were searching for the gunman, described as a Black man with a "heavy build" and who was wearing a green "construction-type vest" and gray hooded sweatshirt.

Why would a BVI resident go up there and do this fool? You can't see there are crazy people everywhere, not just here.
I know you're joking, but this is not a joking matter! People were shot and hurt so stop being an #$% .

The story says they will not allow New York residents to be terrorized. New York City police and other states have been terrorizing Black people and killing them for eons. Nothing here has changed except people are fed up and fighting back out of pure frustration and anger. This shooter may have reached his limit of being mistreated and responded by acting violently. Another homegrown U.S. citizen going off the deep end, created by the system.

They are not on Work Permit, so they will not be treated as expats here. Most of them born there and/or Naturalised US citizens
