GREENLAND, Tortola, VI –In front of a crowd of hundreds, Grenada were crowned Champions of the LIME Superfast Twenty/ 20 League on Sunday June 14, 2015 at the Greenland Playfield with a crushing 85-run victory over Vincy Cricket Club.

Having won the toss after the Opening Ceremony, the Vincy Captain, Austin McDowall, surprisingly asked Grenada to bat first and they were soon regretting that decision. Vincy added to their woes too with a couple of drop catches and sloppy fielding.

Tournament MVP, Man of the Match, and Highest Aggregate Run Scorer, Derol Redhead led the way with 77 as Grenada put the Vincy bowlers to the sword with aggressive batting. The Spice Boys rattled up 245 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Xavier Turby picked up 3 wickets for Vincy.

In reply, Grenada struck early and went on to bowl the Vincy out for 160, with Kitason Francis picking up 4-49 and leading wicket taker Rodney Marryshow 2-20. Redhead chipped in with 2 for 4.

Skipper Austin McDowal top scored for Vincy with 58 in the reply that say Vincy lose wickets at regular intervals. Nevertheless, the crowd was entertained with a number of sixes.

Victorious Captain, Jason Thomas was full of praise for his players and their performance. “The runs on the board put us in a good position. We knew we would have them under pressure as they had to go after the runs from ball one and our bowlers did magnificent. Redhead, once again, batted well to put us in such a good position, but the bowlers stuck to their plans. We knew what to expect from the Vincy batsmen and we bowled to their weaknesses as a unit.”

Both Redhead, who hit one of the biggest sixes of the league in the final, and Marryshow were later awarded the Nagico Green Caps as the leading run scorer and highest wicket taker respectively at the trophy presentation attended by Premier, Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith, Territorial At Large Representative Hon Archibald C. Christian and Eighth District Representative Hon. Marlon A. Penn, among others.

Both players also received cheques for $500 each.

Grenada took home $2000 and Vincy $1000.

Vikings conquer Royal Knights

Earlier, Vikings grabbed third place and $500 dollars with a 35-run win over Royal Knights.

Anil Mohabir scored 88 for the Vikings and Dave Pyroo 80 as the Vikings reached 210. In reply, the Royal Knights were always struggling against some tight Vikings’ bowling and athletic fielding and were restricted to just 175.

Anthony Slowly made 63 for the Royal Knights. The pick of the bowlers was Vaden Walker who went for just 8 runs from four overs and nabbed two wickets.
