Gov't working hard to find $$ for salary hike for healthcare workers- Health Minister
During Talking Points on Monday, May 11, 2026, on ZBVI 780 AM, the Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), stated that the review of current salaries for these workers is underway, and they will soon receive relief; however, a specific date for the implementation of the new salary structure has not yet been determined.
Process underway
“So we have legislative changes that must happen, and they're currently being undertaken between HSA, NHI and Social Security,” the minister stated.
In March 2026, some nurses staged protest actions due to issues related to pay and funding. Hon Wheatley reaffirmed to doctors and nurses in the territory that a review is being conducted and that changes are in progress. However, the main concern remains finding the necessary funds to pay these workers.
“We have to figure out how we're going to get the money generating in the system. It's a complicated thing,” he added.
$10.3M increase
The Health Minister also noted that a report received on December 19, 2025, indicated a required $10.3 million annual increase in salaries for all healthcare workers.
“I do not say they don't deserve it. The question is, where do we want to get it from? The thing is, it cannot come from only one place; it's going to come from a lot of places, too,” he said.
Hon Wheatley emphasised that the ministry is working to implement these changes, saying, “We're going to take a little while, but I do believe we are now in May, I do believe by August, we should have some words to say, okay, effective this day, we can start putting that money there for persons.
“We are in the process. We have several meetings with the premier, the ministry itself, and the PS. We also have NHI in the room, Social Security in the room, and HSA in the room. We brought all these persons together. We come up with a comprehensive plan because we're losing good people. Because they're saying, we love the BVI, we love what we do. We just cannot live like this. Persons have gone, and I take that very seriously. I bless those who, despite all the challenges, are still going to give 110%.”

PRIORITIES.
So if you had collected a few $$ more :
$5 from each senior
$10 from each student
$20 from each Adult teacher, fireman, clerk...
PER ANNUM ....FOR THE LAST 20 YEARSSSSS. lets see
ROY SCHNEIDER HOSPITAL is USVI records 33000 outpatients per year. Lets say BVI records half that .
17,000 Outpatients ( I FEEL ITS MORE THAN THAT 45 per dayyy??)
5700 x $20 =$114,000
5700 x $10 =$57000
5700 x $5 = $28,500
TOTAL $199,500
divide by 150 nurses + extra $1300 per year .
A drop in the bucket?
Add smart License plates with sensors counting the amount of time each resident used road infrastructure. 600 trips over beef island should incur a small toll fee payable via your bank account each time you go over, literal CENTS each time, Add all the visitors on cruise ships and safaris, they wont even notice...BUT 750,000 visitors per year x $1 divided by 150 nurses equals????$6300 per annum....$500 per month salary raise. Making sense yet?
Now the safari and taxi owners - a few cents.
Hey..all local residents...a few cents
75% of drivers text and drive. Stop arguing and blocking traffic wasting valuable police man-hours. Cameras and photos and emails and texts will work. Dont show up- demerit, lose your ability to get yourself to work. $$$$$$ in the government coffers.
MODERN STSTEMS - which little caribbean islands have somehow managed to research and deploy :
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The digital traffic management and demerit system in the island state was implemented
with a focus on administrative efficiency, allowing for an exceptionally fast Return on
Investment (ROI). 2 YEARS
## Implementation Costs vs. Revenue
While the total budget for the island state’s broader national road infrastructure
upgrades was significant, the specific digital transformation of the licensing and ticketing
system was achieved with high cost-efficiency:
* Software Development: The core ticketing and online system was developed as an
internal project costing approximately $36,822 USD, with a ten-month development
cycle.
* Revenue Performance: In its first full year of operation, the system collected
approximately $11.5 million USD in fines.
* Immediate ROI: The revenue collected in just that first year was more than 300 times
the reported cost of the software project itself.
## Measured Efficiency Gains
Beyond direct fine collection, the system achieved a “social ROI” through massive
administrative savings for the island state:
* Judicial Relief: By de-criminalizing standard traffic offences, the state removed matters
that previously made up over 60% of all legal filings. (*****NOT SUGGESTING THIS...just sharing as received ******)
* Operational Savings: The transition from a paper-based to an electronic environment
significantly reduced manual data entry and storage costs.
* Anticipated Growth: With the doubling of fine amounts in early 2026 and the rollout of
automated enforcement cameras, annual revenue is expected to climb, further
accelerating the payback period on any hardware maintenance or infrastructure costs.
The data suggests that the direct technological implementation of the system likely
achieved full cost recovery within its first few months of active enforcement.
Would you like to see how these collection figures compare to the average annual costs
of road maintenance in the island state?
2 YEAR ROI. Many other admin and social and administrative and safety benefits. Mayyyybe we could try a thing
Im just saying
Lawyers charging $750 ++ per hour
Cases reaching hundreds of millions
Global mergers and acquisitions
Court fee for a search only just been raised from $2. Even the clerk doing the search or filing the paper is billed to the clients at $350 per TRIP TO THE COURT...not per hour. The court been getting $2 Mehsonnn.
i would gladly do a research based consultancy for the bvi government...u know...if i were in the right circles etc.
