ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Government of the Virgin Islands has issued a notice inviting tenders for locally trained and competent Catering Services to provide meal services at the temporary Immigration Detention Centre in the VI.

The part of service to be provided at the centre is housed at the Hotel Castle Maria, Road Town, Tortola, the proposed scope of service is for a period of one year to ensure compliance in ensuring all meals are prepared and delivered within the time stipulated for meals of persons held in the detention centre by the Immigration Department.

“Procurement Coordinator, Mrs Ishma Rhymer said eligible tenderers are required to have a valid Trade 2023 Licence and submit Certificates of Good Standing in respect of the Social Security and taxes, including Payroll and Income Tax, from VI Social Security Board, National Health Insurance and Inland Revenue,” the tender notice detailed.

Bid documents will be available Friday, 1st September 2023 on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bidding documents will be sent to bidders electronically upon request to procurement@gov.vg with the subject title “Catering Service to Provide Meal Services at the Temporary Immigration Detention Centre Located at Hotel Castle Maria.”

Over the years, there have been several incidents where detainees have reportedly escaped the centre while being housed at Hotel Castle Maria for various reasons. Earlier in the Year, the Government issued a tender for the catering services.

Tend for fire tender bay  

Meanwhile, the Government has also requested tenders from qualified and suitable companies for the Design-Build of a New Fire Tender Bay at the Road Town Fire Headquarters.

The proposed scope of works requires providing all plant, labor, equipment, materials, personnel, staff and resources to perform the works and services in consideration of construction of a tender bay with the general dimensions of 60ft. x 60ft. to be partitioned to allow for four bays for housing the fire tenders, trucks and appliances.

The company will also provide enhanced security measures such as security cameras, external and internal lighting to all sides of the tender bay and security control systems; Relocation of the existing diesel storage area and the construction of a concrete base with chain link fence and electronic entrance gate, amongst other things.

    Yes! Good idea government. Lets feel them good, get them healthy from their journey here so when they are all good again……they can break out of detention, and have the energy to make it to STT on their onward journey.

    Imagine i struggling to eat good on a small salary yet the government see it fit to hire a catering service for people who brake in their country illegally! Madness!!! Sure why not invite the whole family for a few days!
