ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– The Government of the Virgin Islands (VI) has moved to clarify the hiring of three persons, following accusations that Labour laws may have been broken in the process of hiring the persons who currently serve in the Premier’s Office and Government Information Services (GIS).

During the Premier’s One-on-One Update on Current Matters Press Briefing on January 6, 2023, talk show host Rosemary Cindy Rosan accused the Government of stuttering to answer her questions in relation to the hires.

“Two of the persons are not virgin Islanders and Belongers and they have lived in this territory for less than a year, GIS, when I requested, could not give me any information on the ads or the job, or the descriptions,' she said.

“Do you find it appropriate as the Premier to break the Labour laws, to hire persons who prefer to live in the BVI and not return home after it didn’t work out with the local companies they were hired through while qualified persons Virgin Islanders and Belongers sit at home unemployed,” she asked Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

Jobs were advertised - Chief Information Officer

While the matter was clarified by Government Information Service (GIS) Chief Information Officer Ms Desiree Smith, that the jobs were advertised and the candidates interviewed in the case of those hired by GIS, the Government in a statement has further moved to offer some more clarity regarding the hires.

“The public is advised that the hiring of two of the persons to the Public Service to serve as Information Officers was done in accordance with the Service Commissions Regulations, 2014 and section 92 of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007.”

The government said additionally, the contracting of the third person to serve as a Special Adviser to the Premier was done in accordance with section 3(b)(ix) of the Public Procurement Act, 2021.

They might be the hardest working and most reliable ones. Once they give good service and work for their pay which is the major problem in the CS. I don't see a problem, the rude and non performers BVI landers or not is the real problem in the CS

Enough of wasting our time with Cindy and her political agenda from the colonial masters. Let's move forward.

It is now clear that the Premier was not involved in inappropriate conduct but what about the Governor? Is all living in his palace that our tax payers pay for is doing so in a manner that is reflective of the Queen's standards and is not inappropriate behavior? When will we get clarity on that so we can stop asking, or should we send to ask the King for answers?

This is the issue with people like you. We can question and ridicule the actions and conduct of public servants and elected officials but when it comes to questioning those of the Governor then that is supposed to always be off limit to all or else you will be sued. This mentality is what is alarming and says a lot about us as a people.

If GIS had this information available, then why only now is it being made public? This allowed the Premier and his government to take unnecessary negative publicity for no reason. This seems like an intentional action to always make governments seem like a failure in the public's eyes while always promoting the colonial masters in a good light.

If those two so-called reporters were so good why are they seeking government jobs after holding work permits for less than a year? I hope they pass probation on this new job!

Why don’t we women of the BVI come together as a group and arm ourselves with crow bars, tire iron, broom sticks, tree branch, 2x4s and steel pipes and start beating the heck out of the men that is cheating.

To Mannix, but I think she is not employed on the public purse, or requiring a work permit. So no comparison. The sooner some of you bloggers realise that the governor is the top dog the better. Only pity is he didnt suspend the constitution and sack, after investigation, all the ministers and civil servants who the COI identified as corrupt. The longer this goes on, the more some of you seem to think there was nothing wrong here, and that biting back at the governor will make thing good again. Some of you will vote back in the same people if they are allowed, or are willing, to stand at the next election.

In God's name how can this be according to the law. These ads was posted on a particular site for a few seconds and was removed. The govenor who is responsible for the civil service must come forward and present the people with satisfaction about this hang job or i will post the ad. Meaning time of putting it up and taking it down. Miss boss GIS I coming for you. This appointment must be investigated. Mr Rawart of Coi will know about this also. These politicians had a COI and still continuing the nonsense!! Cindy is right!

These appointments iS not necessary at this time, so close to election. Something suspicion about it, the premier does not need an advisor at this time, have he looked inside and see what his own people can do, hiring strangers sucking all the money dont know S###w what they are capable of. This is unsatisfactory for all members of government making a mockery out of your own people, stupid judgment of your own people. You people stop bad talking CIndy she can be the one who will take us out of this mess. Know when you have people who is vital to you. Why you support ignorance and not comnon sence, you can see clearly that government is trying to cover his tracks.
