'For the period August 15th through September 30th Government quarantine accommodations will continue to be provided at no cost to all returning persons, regardless of immigration status,' Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced last evening, August 17, 2020.
'For the period August 15th through September 30th Government quarantine accommodations will continue to be provided at no cost to all returning persons, regardless of immigration status,' Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced last evening, August 17, 2020.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Virgin Islands (VI) Government has made free the cost of mandatory quarantine for persons returning to the Territory and opting to stay in Government quarantine facilities.

"For the period August 15th through September 30th Government quarantine accommodations will continue to be provided at no cost to all returning persons, regardless of immigration status," Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) announced last evening, August 17, 2020.

The move comes following a Saturday, March 14, 2020, announcement that all qualified persons, regardless of immigration status, required to quarantine in government accommodation upon return to the Territory, will be required to contribute towards the cost of quarantine as of 1st October 2020.

$2,500 fee from October only

"We also decided that all qualified persons, except for Virgin Islanders, Belongers, Permanent Residents and Naturalised Citizens, will contribute toward the costs for government quarantine accommodation, 24-hour security and meals in the amount of $2,500, with effect from 1st October 2020," Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) had said at the weekend.

Persons opting to stay in private quarantine facilities will still have to pay some $3,500 per household, to contribute to the cost of security and other administrative expenses, the Premier said.

This fee is applicable except for reasons such as medical or as otherwise exceptionally authorised by the Minister for Health; once private quarantine is selected.

The VI now has two active cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 11, inclusive of 1 death as of August 17, 2020.

I think there still needs to be some difference .The length of time living here must count as something. . A person who's been living here 15 yrs and up this is home for them... .

I still think there is no need for 14 days quarantine when a passenger has 2 negative tests in a 48 hrs span one done by our own medical team...... Its nothing but waste of funds

If your home is where you born, why do so many children who are born here have no status and have to get passports from their parents country???

Why Navy don’t pay? Or quarantine either? Bring disease and get free pass. Now we have to pay?!

Whites subjugated and enslaved us now doing it again and we’re paying for it.

I have lived and worked here not to mention being born here and I have to go out for medical assistance. Is it fair that on my return I have to pay for quarantine when persons who are nationals but work and live in the US come and quarantine on the state’s expense? There should be a balance, They came for the little festival activities and all other events to frolic and mix but me who paying taxes have to pay for my quarantine. This not fair. Persons who don’t live and/or work in BVI regardless of status should been paying.

Please people, think!!!. Remember Montserrat Those people were forced for the Volcano to leave home and everything, one way ticket. the most of them were welcome abroad to stay and make a living. my question is then Is home were you were born? You who congregate and dress neatly for CHURCH and call yourself Christians, how you "Expects" to live in Heaven if you were not born in there? It is easy to forget history and I am sure If the situations of these called "expat" were your situation you had begged for help. At Least these most "Expats" have dignity you none have.
