ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has revealed that the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI) will be implementing a 4-7week plan on lowering COVID infections in the Territory.

“We have been working to develop and implement a four-to-seven-week plan of how we project to get the numbers down, stop the spread, and increase vaccination. This plan was shared by the Minister of Health,” the Premier revealed.

Vaccinations key in the VI

Hon Fahie provided the update in a Friday, July 9, 2021, statement on the state of the virus in the Virgin Islands when he indicated that the plan includes the following COVID-19 suppression protocols and getting vaccinated.

“We have boosted our health infrastructure, refurbished the old Peebles Hospital into a major COVID-19 center, invested in our own testing lab at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital, we have implemented effective protocols, and we have made vaccines and testing available with the assistance of the UK,” the Premier reminded.

He said the government and the local agencies continue to be guided by our very competent and qualified medical professionals.

“This puts us in a stronger position to fight this. But this plan can only succeed with everyone’s cooperation. The past 15 months have proven that the BVI can fight off COVID-19 when we work together,” he said.

Gov't remains committed to boosting Economy - Premier

Hon Fahie reminded that in the last 15 months, the territory was able to keep persons safe and to keep most businesses in the position to be able to reopen and to provide jobs.

“We have been able to receive tourists since December 2020. We have been able to revive economic activity,” he said.

Hon Fahie also indicated that while the recent developments represent a serious and major setback to the aspirations of the VI, the commitment to taking the economy into overdrive has not changed.

Just do a vaccine lottery once you get vaccinated you will be automatically enter for a chance to win the jackpot of at lease 10 winners can emerge with cash. Let’s say first prize $200,000. , second prize $150,00 , 3 prize $100,00 ———- government will be getting ppl vaccinated and helping some lucky ones with cash at the same time and you will see how many ppl will rush to get the vaccine .

What you all need to get ASAP is anti body test because by now if it’s 1500 tested positive the numbers are way way higher. We really are in this together same as when cruise season starts waves of sickness we dealt with yearly but no one cared.

People will recover when they do won’t it be wasteful to vaccinate them twice?

If the medical staff won't take the vaccine how does that help anyone? Pray you don't have to check in the hospital because you probably won't check out without getting infected. Get Covid from staff who are to dumb to realize they are the culprits spreading it! The plan should have been and still should be to make sure there are enough staff who are vaccinated so your staff won't be too sick to work and spreading it around!

I have a serious concern after reading the statement from the USVI Governor. He is asking for a negative PCR test done within 48hrs. Results in the BVI for PCR test are given in 72 hours. Major problems coming. BVI will have to step up the game otherwise alot of vacationers and visitors will get stranded. BVI Health Services please look into this.

The USVI Governor knows that the BVI cannot produce a test result that fast! He wants to stop all people coming from the BVI but politically cannot say that. From his point of view, he's keeping the danger out.

This is all well and good but assuming increasing vaccination rates is a key part of the plan, it may be impossible to achieve given the level of vaccine hesitancy and resistance of those that remain unvaccinated to following reason and science. We can only hope that they see the death and illness and realise it is a far worse outcome than taking a shot which is based on existing vaccination techniques and scientific knowledge with a minimal chance of adverse effects

In 4-7 weeks nature will take care of business. The vaccinated and those who have had it will be largely immune and numbers will start to fall. Best thing the government can do is keep out.
