ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has assured that his government has not dropped the ball on its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the new Omicron variant, as the global pandemic rages on.

Premier Fahie provided an update while responding to questions during a live press conference today, December 10, 2021, on an update on current matters in the territory.

Information continuously coming - Premier

“I wouldn’t say we dropped the ball at all, there has been a lot of information out continuously, right now the cases stand at 40, [as of December 9, 2021]… so that’s the official update,” Hon Fahie said.

“COVID-19 is not going anywhere, this is nothing new… we have to continuously remind persons… we have to work and live with COVID-19,” he said while reminding that prisons must continue following the local public health measures against the virus.

With a promise to ‘step up’ the vaccination drive, Hon Fahie by the new week, the territory should be expecting new shipments of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines from the UK, given the refrigeration capacity for the Pfizer jabs is now available in the territory.

He said the most the Government will continue do, is encourage persons to take the responsibility to adhere to the public health guidelines, especially during the festive season.

VI cannot live in fear over COVID - Premier

“But we cannot continue to live in fear, we have the vaccines take it, and if you cannot take it and you are against the vaccine that’s your democratic right. But we cannot allow a few persons to get away with carelessness and shut down an entire economy,” he said.

With regards to the Omicron variant, Premier Fahie said updates will come in the new week, “but still even with that, there is nothing else we have been told to do other than the same methodologies that have been listed before, so I just want to encourage persons not to look for excuses,” he said.

Premier Fahie in encouraging vaccination reminded that he always warned VI that other variants will come, “Prepare yourself, vaccinate and if you cannot vaccinate then take care of your immune system. But the truth of the matter is, we just have to live with it,” he said.

The Government have to get more strict with the protocols. People is still acting the fool and think this is a joke. I am going to get a lot of negative by saying this but, one of the policies should be if a person is not from the Country and they have status be it by marriage or green card or other and they are not vaccinated or refuse to be vaccinated, revoke the status they have in the Country.

You sound like a dictator just like the politicians, I hope when we have a Nuremberg 2.0 they tie your rope tight and sling you off U.Ps building. What about people who can’t take the shots whether they have medical conditions, religious belief, human rights ! When you give up your rights you don’t get them back. You think all those million of people that’s protesting just out there for the show ? People have come to understand it’s not about a virus, for example Barbados and Israel. And for those who still believe in this experimental shot, tell that to all the people who have had miscarriages, tell that to the people who live in countries with a full vaccination rate, their cases have sky rocket WITH ADVERSE reactions so guess who are in those hospitals. Just guess smh

People aren’t in the hospitals with adverse reactions to the vaccines. That is utter hogwash.
They are in the hospital with Covid.
People, if you can’t or won’t take the vaccine for WHATEVER reason, then please just try and be responsible by wearing real masks that cover your nose and mouth and seal around that part of your face, and be aware of safe physical distance when out in Public. This is to protect yourself, as well as to protect others from the spread of the virus. We all know now that vaccinated as well as unvaccinated can spread the virus. Delta and Omicron are even more able to spread than early variants of Covid.

Look at you teaching the public how to wear their muzzles correctly. Omicron is vaccinated people who’s immune system has been destroyed over time. You need a booster to boost your immune systems that’s why the UK doctor stated that we will have to give people boosters regularly.
