ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- His Excellency the Governor, Daniel Pruce, has assented to the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The legislation was passed in the House of Assembly on July 10, 2026.

The Consumer Protection (Amendment) Act, 2026, amends the Consumer Protection Act, 2020.

The Act outlines the responsibilities of those vendors who provide goods and services to the community, and the rights of the consumers. The Act also provides for a tribunal to settle disputes and complaints.

The amendments are also expected to transfer responsibilities assigned to the non-operational Virgin Islands Trade Commission to the minister responsible and the Director of Business.

    How about ripping off customers? Why is it I can buy goods on Amazon in the USA, ship them to the BVI and the after paying the shipping fee and duty tax they are still way cheaper than the goods sold in the supermarkets? If I can get them so cheap why cant the supermarkets?

      Maybe because the supermarkets need to pay their running costs (BVIEC, W&SD, Staff, etc, etc) and make some profit. The issue is that some of them (if not all) try to make too much profit!
      Amazon sales volume cannot be compared to the sales volume of any BVI merchant
