PROSPECT REEF, Tortola, VI- Governor John J. Rankin, CMG has met the six Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Officers involved in an operation that led to the seizure of drugs and the arrest of 6 persons off Anguilla on Friday, July 7, 2023.

News of the drug bust off Anguilla was first reported by our news centre and subsequently confirmed by the Police.

Meanwhile, Governor Rankin used the opportunity to his personal voice to the local and overseas commendations expressed to the six RVIPF Marine Branch officers whose bravery and tactical skills were showcased during the high sea chase and interception of two boats carrying illegal drugs, according to a press release from the RVIPF today, July 14, 2023.

Governor Rankin hails UK support!

The Governor spoke to the officers while onboard the St Ursula at the Police Marine Base on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Mr Rankin did not miss the opportunity to put a positive plug for the United Kingdom (UK).

“I warmly congratulate you, the members of the RVIPF marine unit, for your work in this operation. The successful seizure demonstrates the increased capacity that the marine unit has developed, including with UK support, and the importance of cooperation between Overseas Territories and international partners in tackling the illicit trade in drugs,” the Governor noted.

Two RVIPF vessels with two teams, a sergeant and 5 constables, responded to a call to assist in a joint international anti-narcotic smuggling operation led by U.S. law enforcement authorities and the UK National Crime Agency.

In the end, the two vessels intercepted the two boats within Anguillan territorial waters, arrested the six persons onboard and confiscated 60 bales of what is suspected to be cocaine, one of the largest water-based cocaine seizures in recent history.

The RVIPF said this success characterises the ongoing international collaboration of law enforcement entities throughout the Caribbean which continues to disrupt and dismantle organised criminality.

The Officers have also been commended by the National Security Council.

People like you just annoys me. I did not write the original post, but I will help you BVI hater out by naming a just few good from all BVI governments and leaders over the years:
        1) Save thousands of lives through proactive measures during Covid which was the worse pandemic in the last 100yrs,
        2) New ESHS High School facilities as well as JVD and others.
        3) Repaired many school facilities on all islands that were damaged by Irma.
        4) Repaired many government buildings and facilities on all islands that were damaged by Irma.
        5) Made the funds available to the Governor to pay all public servants increments which he can't get done up to now. Also, pay for all the Governor expenses such as maid, butler, driver, vehicle, cook, domestic workers, local staff, etc

        7) Made tertiary education at HLSCC free for all belongers.
        8) Regularized over 1500 persons with status after being ignored for years as I am one.
        9) Built a modern hospital facility.
        10) Award over 40 scholarships yearly to students to study abroad.
        11) Fed the whole BVI while under lock down due to covid crisis/pandemic.
        12) Pass plenty good governance legislation long before any COI.
        13) Allowed 6th form so students who excel can do A levels and beyond.
        14) Made it stamp duty tax free for all first-time home and landowners.
        15) HLSCC was built and lately accredited.
        16) Education system was accredited.
        17) Built and lately repaired the multipurpose complex.
        18) Implemented NHI (although it needs improvements it has its purpose)

        21) Fought the colonial masters to get back Wickhams Cay.
        22) Made many things customs duty free to help with the economic hardship during covid and now.
        23) Always have a balanced budget and is well known and respect for good financial stewardship by all financial institutions except the colonial masters.
        24) Fund the same police force so the UK Commissioner of police can brag how many new recruits he gets per year (Still he & the Governor cannot keep the CGB and West End police station opened).
        25) Well respected by many regional and international bodies like CDB, CARICOM, etc.
        26) Passes their budgets on time and avoid budget deficits.
        27) Free secondary and primary education and assistance for public transportation to public schools.
        28) Training, certification and qualification of teachers with bachelors, etc through UWI and other educational institutions.
        29) Leads the way per capita for people with bachelors and other education certifications.
        30) Certification programmes for persons in the marine industry in all areas.

I will stop there for now because persons like you and the Governor and his UK gang on a mission to make the world think that nothing good happens in the BVI nor from its people, but the record is there to prove that filth WRONG. Trust me there are plenty more that can be listed so come test me again when you are ready. I was not born here but I made it my home and PROUD OF THE BVI!!!

Just the 1st three… Yes, the territory was well protected from covid, but the myopic half of the population declined the FREE vaccinations. And then there’s the selfish few that thought they just really needed to sneak off to St. Thomas, party it up, and then come home and share covid with thousands of BVIslanders. You call taking 5 very long years to rebuild the high school an item done well? Seems to resemble misguided priorities to me. 5 years is not what I’d call a victory. And repaired the other schools.. Only through the kindness and largess of a very few wonderful people, but certainly not our government.
          We could go on.

The boats tried to make a dash for the BVI because they knew that our DPP has a reputation for failing whereas the Anguilla DPP is fairly competent.

This man never see anything good the people and government of the Virgin Islands does. He only sees what he and anything under his responsibility does as good. A real colonialist.

You are so correct. During Covid the only thing he was publicly praising was the killer vaccines the UK final sent when they realizing the BVI was surviving without them.

So, Mr. Governor you want to take credit but do not want to ever take blame. Go get the police stations in CGB and West End open 24hrs. They are under your responsibility Mr. Governor.

Governor the public service is under you so pay the police their increments and have a proper non-racist succession plan for the police that will allow persons other than from the UK to be the commissioner of police and hold other significant senior post in the police force.

A few bad Apples spoiled the whole bunch..So Police need to clean their stuff up..Don't allow 2 or 3 really bad crazy ones to tare them down...

I congratulate the police and will always support them. The negativity is regarding the duplicitous nature of the Governor. This is really about the UK efforts he is praising and not the local police force. It is always about them.
