WICKHAM'S CAY 1, Tortola, VI- His Excellency Governor John J. Rankin CMG has extended the existing curfew to August 20, 2021, as per the powers conferred on him by sections three and four of the Curfew Act, 2017 (No. 20 of 2017).

The Order was published in the Official Gazette on August 3, 2021, but was made on July 30, 2021, according to the statutory instrument.

“This Order shall come into force on the 6th day of August 2021 at 5.01 am. For the purposes of controlling, suppressing or preventing the spread of COVID-19 and for the protection of all persons within the territory,” the Order said.

“For the purposes of subsection (1), no person shall be on the streets, and every person shall remain confined to their place of residence (inclusive of their yard space), from the date this Order comes into force to Friday 20th August 2021 between the hours of 7 pm to 5 am subject to such conditions as stipulated in this Order and requirements as provided under the Order.”

Curfew exemptions

The Order, however, stated that there were some classes of people that the curfew shall not apply to, such as someone who is the subject of a mandatory quarantine order under the relevant enactments, protocols or guidelines, or direction by a quarantine officer appointed under the Quarantine Act, 2014, to be in quarantine.

The Order is, in addition, not applicable to the heads of departments in the public service, heads of statutory corporations, persons employed in essential services, judges and magistrates, persons employed in mortuary services, humanitarian support, media and broadcast providers, agricultural workers, fisherfolks, and teachers, among others, travelling to and from work.

We don't need no curfew once real information that the government seems to be hiding comes out so that the people can know how to care their bodies.

We need to learn to humble ourselves under higher authority, and cease our rebellious grumbling and trash talking, that have no helping power of getting us out of the mess, that we are now in.
We ought to respectfully give honour to those the have the appoined overseer position over us, for our own good, God being our main helper.

Them should be good! Average hairstyles is $125 and up! And while they working on your hair then also working on 3 other home girl hair as well. None of those within the hair dressing industry should be hungry!! On on the other said now with barber’s it’s more complex.
  • Some are saying that the curfew in place is killing business. This saying is true. (04/08/2021, 10:56) Like (14) Dislike (12) Reply
But of both, which of the two is better, dead businesses, or dead people? It is far better to loose some dead money than to lose living peoole. Do you with me? You should. Please be patient. Don't lose faith, especially the faith of God.

the people dying and in hospital are ALL UNVACCINATED , they had the chance to be vaccinated from beginning of March but chose not to, it was their choice, but now we are being dictated to due to their choices , that is wrong.

Why extend the curfew when people can congregate before the curfew? So again what's with the curfew, what purpose is it serving and if it has a good reason well how about a later time for curfew so people can make ends meet.

Some of y’all sleeping, certain businesses that pose a threat more than barbers and salons are open daily! Forcing some folks into debt and forcing businesses to close permanently with no valid explanation as to why others are open!

Why we can go yo a Super Market busy ad hell, with people Rubbing shoulders passing each other, especizlly in some isles that are very small, Yet you are telling me that people cannot sit down in a Restaurant and eat, and most time tbe people who are eating together are always together, where-by the people in Super Markets and othet businesses rubbing on u are strangers...What kind of backwardness and biasness is this against some businesses..

We did all this before and as soon as we open we are over 30 deaths. The USVI never closed down and their economy exploded and now our death toll surpassed them . The lock down did not work

Let me remind the people that its y'all who has the real power. That white bwoy, the police or VIP have no power over the people if the masses decide to come out of their houses, open their businesses etc. They are the minority and will always be.

Well said except it is not a newspaper. No black and white. I hope restaurants get together and open up. If it is done properly from Anegada to VG to Jost it would be epic. Do it politely and with respect to the covid protocols and prove that we are not children and we can all behave and make a living. Sorry just my 2 cents...

all the hairdressers and barbers are doing home visits while they complain on line, just like they did when they were closed due to the curfew last year, so lets no all worry about them, even doing massage on the beaches....

This can be seen as the first step in the take over process...We need a hault a new direction,. an honest evaluation and a real forward moving Plan....The Excuses and Picking of fights and always think ur right that we are getting now, is not the way to go....So England taking Over for a 1yr period, put things in order, proper processes, the proper policies and the proper people in the the proper positions to ensure proper execution....We need that, them they can turn it back over to our people
