ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The high-handed move by United Kingdom-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce to remove local Jacqueline E. Vanterpool as Acting Commissioner of Police, despite the objections of the Police Service Commission (PoSC) has left many in the Virgin Islands confused, disturbed, and wanting answers.

These include officers and staff of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), who recently requested an explanation from the governor, who agreed to meet the members of the RVIPF.

According to reports; however, the officers and staff were left none the better informed or satisfied as to the reasons for Vanterpool’s removal as the Acting top cop, as Governor Pruce did his usual dodging and vague responses.

Police officers ‘expressed concern’

According to a public missive from the RVIPF late Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Acting Commissioner of Police issued a force-wide document informing officers and staff of a decision by His Excellency the Governor for her to revert to her substantive rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.

This prompted an “emergency meeting” held on Friday, November 7, where the Acting Commissioner addressed members of the Force to further explain the Governor’s directive.

“Officers expressed concern and requested an opportunity to hear directly from His Excellency,” the RVIPF stated.

Dodging Daniel?

According to the press release, Governor Pruce accepted the request and met with members of the RVIPF on Monday, November 10, where he addressed the Force and answered questions in hopes of providing clarity on his decision.

“While officers appreciated the opportunity for open dialogue, many were still left with questions and concerns about the process and its implications for the organisation moving forward,” the RVIPF release stated.

Governor Pruce continues to give a straightforward answer for his controversial decision and only stated on a talk show on Monday that it was because of “developments in weeks and months”.

“The circumstances that have come to be through developments in recent weeks and months that I felt it was my duty to exercise judgment, which will see Acting Commissioner Vanterpool revert back to her Deputy Commissioner role…initiate the process to bring in an interim Acting Commissioner and whoever that may be,” Governor Pruce stated on Talking Points.

RVIPF remains ‘steadfast in mission’ to people

Meanwhile, the RVIPF stated; however, that it remains steadfast in its mission to serve and protect.

“Despite any changes that may come, our commitment to the safety and security of the Virgin Islands and its people remains unwavering.”

The unpopular decision, which some have even labelled as “sexist” and “racist”, has sparked community outrage.

What has been irking the people even more is that Governor Pruce’s pick to replace Vanterpool is a man with a shady past.

A protest was held on Monday, November 10, 2025, in front of the Governor’s Office, and protest activities are continuing in various forms throughout the week.

A grand march is planned for Friday, November 14, 2025, when a signed petition will be given to the governor.

The traffic lights are supposed to be a form of traffic control, she can’t make the motorists follow the rules of the road. Now ask yourself, why is it stupid to have physical police officers stationed at a traffic light?

Nothing about the shootings or flow of guns (which are supposed to be illegal). This is all empty noise.

        @VIslander: get your own handle.

Virgin Islanders have the right to request clarification on the decision taken by the Governor. If the UK is really interested in having a partnership then there should be dialog and transparency. What I am seeing is a lot of dancing and dodging by the Governor. This is 2025, not 1925. Our wishes should be taken into consideration.

You all just want Jackie to be top cop thinking that she is going to cover up and give you all a break because she is local and black. Honestly. you local people cost her that position with your sense of entitlement. Ok, let’s say one of you that knows Jackie or she is related to you or perhaps someone in Government and your child committed a robbery or some other crime may pressure her to sweep it under the rug or cover it up. You all is the ones that cause her the position with the way you all does things and your ways of thinking. Not because you are family, you know me or we grew up together don’t expect to get a pass or cover up your BS.

Yes. We are expecting the Police to uphold the laws. That would include getting cars with Heavy Tint off the road. That is easy just arrest the corrupt workers at DMV issuing the licences and taking the licence numbers in the town carparks and issuing tickets like parking tickets. Remove the plates which they get back when the tint is removed.

Next Acting or Real CoP should get on to these items.

Performance issues should be raised one on one in private.

Not splashed across headlines and gossiped about at full staff meetings and in the street.

    It’s called being professional.

All police and auxillary officers are vetted. There's an introduction of a new vetting scheme which is more rigorous. That vetting scheme has been halted due to it seemingly infringing on workers rights and the courts agreed.

He will answer police questions once the police gets vetted. Once you are in any type of law enforcement, you should/must be vetted. Also, if you are working for any Financial Institution you have to be vetted.

we were set free back in 1834 and due to poor political leadership, we right back in modern day slavery

some thing might have went wrong because in 2025 we still struggling over having our people act as the leaders of law enforcement

Our forefathers were wiped and killed back then and somehow modern day leaders can not get the chains off our hands

Buckingham still in charge of the Prison System but the cat cut our tongues: Mr UK or Ms UK still look over our shoulders

Political Leaders needs to take the UK Bulls by the Horns and set our people free and I don’t mean independence

The government must report this man to the foreign and commonwealth office. He is playing dictator and must be removed. He is now showing the people that he cannot be trusted. Have a conversation with Bermudan. Was he sent hereto destroy this paradise? Time for truth.

Mark Collins was one of the most disgraced commissioners that ever came across to us. He left the force in a disarray. I was one of them who was upset with Jackie protecting him. But I have to support her because she got the force clean up from how he left it. Governor Pruce allowed Mark Collins to get away with murder and he evil lying self disrespected Jackie and slap her in her face. But Jackie will always be our commissioner. Every commissioner had high rise of crime under their watch and that’s not an issue to blame her. She dismantled the UK privileged officers status. Let Pruce be honest and tell the people that’s why he is upset with her among other things.

We indeed some real policing is 100% correct. If your mother, brother, sister, spouse or child/children commit a crime or break the law, they should be placed in hand cuffs and taken into custody. There should absolutely be no exceptions.NO ONE IS ABOVE OR SHOULD BE ABOVE OR ALLOWED TO BE ABOVE THE LAW NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE.
