ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- United Kingdom (UK) appointed Governor of the [British] Virgin Islands John J. Rankin, CMG has agreed with his UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that Israel has every right to defend itself; however, he said the UK is “deeply concerned” about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Israel launched its bombing campaign against terrorist organization Hamas in response to an unprecedented cross-border attack on October 7, 2023.

At least 1,400 people were killed and 222 others were taken hostage in the Hamas attack.

Israel’s war to “destroy” Hamas in Gaza has killed more than 11,000 people, the Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza says, though it doesn’t differentiate between civilians and fighters. The United States, according to the Associated Press, believes thousands of women and children are among the dead.

Israel has ‘every right’ to defend itself- Rankin

It is unclear how many Jews and Palestinians live in the Virgin Islands; however, Governor Rankin was asked about his position on the conflict.

“As the UK Prime Minister said yesterday [November 8, 2023], Israel suffered a shocking terrorist attack a month ago and has every right to defend itself, within the bounds of international law.

“The UK has consistently urged Israel to take all possible measures to avoid civilian casualties. We are deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.”

Governor Rankin noted that the UK is working intensively to get more aid into Gaza and get British nationals out.

“And as the Prime Minister has said, the UK is calling for humanitarian pauses to be agreed as soon as possible and are working with allies to operationalise this.”

PM Sunak told MPs in October that a "safer environment" was needed in the territory to deliver aid and get British nationals out.

But the prime minister did not back a ceasefire as that would only benefit Hamas, his spokesperson said.

International calls for increased humanitarian access to Gaza have been growing louder, with UN aid agencies warning they were "on their knees".

US & Israel differ on who controls Gaza

Meanwhile, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that Israel will retain security control over Gaza for the long term, a stance the White House has rejected, and ruling out alternatives like an international monitoring force.

“The only force right now that can guarantee that Hamas, that terrorism is not – does not reappear and take over Gaza, again, is the Israeli military,” Netanyahu told NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “So overall, military responsibility will have to be in Israel.”

And in an interview with CNN's "State of the Union," Netanyahu appeared to rule out returning Gaza to the Palestinian Authority, saying whatever group takes over must “demilitarise” and “de-radicalise Gaza.”

“There has to be a reconstructed civilian authority," he said of the Palestinian Authority. "There has to be something else.”

The colonialist should know all about that form of conflict resolution. They are all savages, both sides of any war. Just a set of warmongers. Wars solve no purpose, except for those who profit from supplying both sides of the destruction. Manufactured military industrial complex in play. They need to tryout and test all their new inventory for the world’s super powers. Wars have always and will always begin by those who are positioned to gain trillions upon trillions of $ from the destruction.

Wars are never about the population on the ground; it’s always mostly about conceited and stubborn leaders who want to exhibit a show of force. Leadership matters.

What Israel is doing is butchering women & children, this is long past defence.
The Prime Minister of Israel is a Butcher.
    Hamas also has butchers.
But the Jews & Hamas are not Christians. Who believe in love, it is still an eye for an eye in their playbooks.

situation in the BVI. Gaza is controlled by terrorists just like the BVI is controlled by criminal smugglers. Israel has 'every right' to defend itself against terrorist so to the UK has every right to defend the BVI against organized criminal smuggling.

Does, Gov John Rankin, CMG, UK-appointed governor, also agrees that Virgin Islanders in the 21st Century has a right to self-determination without the UK having full veto power over what VI does without any of redressing concerns.Of course, Israel has a right to defend itself but so too does the Palestinians have the right to a place to call home and live in peace without being caged in outdoor prison, having been kicked out of their homeland. In 1947, the UK had control over Palestine and organized along with the UN to split up Palestine, creating a homeland for the Jews and what is left Palestians can be unwelcomed guests in. . It is the UK’s position that Israel has a right to defend itself so it is no surprise that the Governor is taking his position. All major developed countries and others, along with the mainstream press, take the same position ..All the context is being ignored. I don’t agree with the slaughter, kidnapping, etc of children, women, elderly, etc. But a people push to the brink without hope will respond. UK appointed governors are lawfully and duty bound to support UK policies.. Former UK-appointed Guv Augustus Jaspert when the press about reparations for the descendants of slaves takes cover under the UK policy and attitude on reparations, ie, it is not important and is not on the radar screens. Instead, he double down saying that land marks bearing the name of slave traders, murderers, etc should be retained for history. It seems the history of the so called upperclass is important but the the history of the lower class not at all.

Over the years these governors and commissioners of police are because less and less popular and disliked. If only they can stop lying soo much, and entertain the truth for a change. That might help.

They are more disliked because they all seem to have a problem with the truth. Disguising themselves in cloaks of lies to carry out their true agenda.

Bob Marley said that "Unless the philosophy which hold one race superior and another inferior, is permanently and finally eradicated, everywhere is war". I totally disagree with the governor's statement about Israel right to defend itself. What of the innocent Palestinians who were killed by Israel before the October 7, 2023, attacked. Children walking on the road in Gaza were being killed daily and the same British Prime Minister was there and made no statement. The Palestinians cannot take any more. Britain and its allies destroyed the Palestinians homeland and took their lands since 1948 and settled the Europeans criminals in their Territory. The God that I serve will make the Palestinians prevail. God is looking at their sufferings and He will set them free as He did when Moses brought out the people to the promise land. Israel Prime Minister will be removed from the scene in Jesus name. Time will tell. Long live the Palestinian people.

The Palestinians (they elected and supported Hamas) are not innocent in provoking this against themselves either. The Jews and Arabs living there each had a right to a portion of the land. But the goal of the Arabs since 1948 has always been the total destruction of the new Jewish state and its absorption into a new Muslim state.

We African descendants out there protesting should also know that there is rampant racism against sub-Saharan Africans, including in the Palestinian territories.

We should remain neutral and low key in this, but should also support the UN in resolving the issue for the peace and safety of both sides.

    We understand your position, Governor.

Israel was founded in 1948 by America and Great Btitain. Members of the Royal family, are Jewish.

So it stands to reason that you must defend Israel's right to exist, even if it means that the life of one Israeli, is worth 1000 Palestinian lives!!!

How your statement factors into the British occupation of the people of the the BVI, is still bothersome.

Just as you defend Israel's right to exist, I feel that our people here has the right to say, do, and feel in a manner requisite to their beliefs, REGARDLESS, of the levels and manner of continued British occupation!

And, if the people feel that you should, GOVERNOR, betcha by golly, YOU SHOULD GO!

BIBI is a renown butcherer of Palestinians from his day in the Israeli army, as a soldier and as an officer.
As prime minister he has presided over the butchering of as many Palestinians as all other prime ministers put together since i1970. He knew of the Hamas plot and willfully ignored it so he could get the perfect excuse to escalate his genocide of the Palestinian people under the guise of protecting Israel. THE BUTCHER OF GAZA. He sacrificed Israeli lives to further his objective.

Be aware that just because they live in Israel doesn't mean that they are the Israelites. It's lazy thinking to grant these folks pardon for war crimes just because they live in Israel. The Israelites live in Africa and throughout the world and Israel doesn't want to give them rights in Israel. But the unfortunate thing about it is that it's mainly innocent people who get hurt or killed and displaced in this war; And in every war. That being said, the Israeli people have a right to defend themselves against Hamas, & the palestinian people have a right to land & liberty as well. Don't let superficial statements & labels bias your view. It's just a messy situation over there.

War is deadly, a means of settling disputes, means of forcefully taking land/territory, etc. The young men and women of the poor, marginalized, etc are sent to fight/sacrifice their lives, etc for the wishes of the powerful. Nevertheless, war is profitable for the rich and wealthy who invest in the military industrial complex. All the weapons and ammunition used in day Ukraine, Gaza, etc must be replaced.

It’s a very sensitive matter. Israel has been bulldozing Palestinian Homs to build their settlements for a long time, to the point that the people of Palestine have been piled a decimated portion of land. Also, there have been Palestinian deaths every single day since 1967, of course, the mainstream media can’t report those deaths. Opposing a cease fire makes any nation a supportive of genocide.
