FORT RECOVERY, Tortola, VI- A GoFundMe has been launched for 17-year-old J'Alon Penn, who was involved in a serious motor scooter accident at Fort Recovery on October 20, 2025.

According to the GoFundMe account, the impact left Mr Penn with severe injuries, and just two days later, he was airlifted to Colombia for advanced medical treatment.

"Since then, J’Alon has faced an incredibly tough journey—spending two and a half weeks in the ICU, undergoing nine surgeries, and now continuing his recovery in the general ward. His path to healing will be long, with months of respiratory, physical, and speech therapy ahead.

"J’Alon’s family has been by his side every step of the way, but the financial burden is overwhelming. The funds raised will support his medical journey, including hospital bills, ongoing hospital expenses, post-operative care and therapy, and living expenses while J’Alon is unable to work," the GoFundMe post stated.

$50K goal

The GoFundMe account has a goal of $50,000.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Isn't he a student? which should be funded by NHI and I thought he was flown to Colombia already. I hope his parents get through. A speedy recovery is wished for both him and the young lady also.

Glad they are recovering. He cant drive a car but government allows riders at 16 with a passenger. 17 is too young for scooters. More accidents & crime. The age should be 21 or banned.

Is this for money to buy a helmet, insurance, a licence plate, or a new scooter or to repair other vehicles that have been damaged tyring to avoid him.

Why does he not have NHI?

Why are his friends still riding around like idiots not waring helmets, going through red lights, wheelies through the traffic.

Hope the family all comes through this. But the burden on them and the costs to the Health services on the island of these wreckless fools clearly has to stop.

Time for a ban before we need more Go Fund Me's and people wanting us to feel sorry for these people creating a menace to our communities everyday.

We need to stop youngsters thinking that essential equipment for riding a scooter are just a pair of flip flops and a mobile phone.

Its sad when these injuries occur, but over and over we keep telling these young men to wear their protective helmet, they blatantly refuse, at the end it is always too late, hope he recovers, and one would think that the others would take heed, NO THEY DONT.

Why should Willock pay for this boy ignorance. I will bet my last dollar that if Willock told him to wear a helmet and ridw responsibly, his response would be mind your own &^...ing business and leave him alone

Is Willock his father or guardian???
Why are the parents of this minor incognito with the cooperation of public news reports and announcements??
Seems to me there is illegality and questionable parental responsibilities regarding this child, which points to the parents/ guardians as unfit in their roles.
This boy needs protection from them is my opinion, assuming that he does have family. To date no identified person or persons has come forward publicly to claim legal responsibility for thus incapacitated minor child.

Sme kinda joke or openbthievery... An underage child is named as a person for whom " GoFundMe" account is set up and not a whisper identifying person or persons making the request .."Jalons family has been by his side every step of the way.".. Who are these family..mother father etc..any adults claiming responsibility for this publicfrequestef nancial collection.,, This accident occurred early Oct ,no parents were identified athen and even 3 mths later solicitation of funds are being requested ,by whom??? And the absence of the id of parents / guardians...irresponsible parents evidently has caused crashing from start and won't finish...this kid never had a chance ! No photo of his face has been published so can't even connect the dots regarding whoo he fa or who is responsible forvthus child, including and and all medical cost , Go fund Me proceeds and disbursement.,

That’s what it’s for if he’d collided with someone else and injured someone else he would’ve left the scene . Now he has his hand out!
