ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As uncertainty looms over the outcome of the United Kingdom (UK) sponsored Commission of Inquiry (CoI), Honestly Speaking radio show host Claude O. Skelton-Cline has reminded that the UK as an empire has always had the mandate to maintain power and control.

Turning attention to the blue economy model, which is the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic development, Skelton-Cline on the June 3, 2021, edition of his Honestly Speaking radio show said “They [UK] are up maintaining absolute control, of that footprint across the Caribbean.”

The Blue Economy

This control, he said, will also include exploration and exploitation of the region’s resources, especially the resources of Overseas Territories.

Looking back at history and the behaviour of empires, Skelton-Cline suggested that all are the same where, “they extract from the poor to give to the rich, it’s the maintenance of their power and control over everybody else,” he said.

He called on his radio listeners to examine the locations of other OTs in comparison to the Virgin Islands and the mandate of the UK.

“Unless you’re going off to space, you’re going in the blue ocean… and what the Global Britain [is], part of its initiative is to maintain control and domination from their slave and colonial past,” he said.

VI constitutional review

According to the man of the cloth, while the VI should have been in the middle of its Constitutional Review of 2017, he said in the context of the UK, the VI will now have to negotiate with the same UK for more freedom with the people holding the territory hostage.

"How you’re going to negotiate your freedom with the jailer, when the jailer’s usefulness and job and position of authority is to continue to be the jailer,” he questions.

He called on Virgin Islanders to stop fighting each other and look at what is a stake in the future, regarding the Global Britain agenda.

The VI is currently undergoing a CoI paid for by the UK government with the oversight of a lone commissioner. Many have described it as a fishing expedition and a conclusion already written, with the aim of taking control of the territory.

This is nothing to do with a UK mandate to maintain power and control. It is about a responsibility to British Overseas Citizens who have suffered dishonest and corrupt government for the last 20 years

If this was truly the responsibility to our territory why didn't we commission the COI? We fail as a territory to establish the checks and balances that we need but in naivety we believe that the UK has our best interest at heart. The UK's only interest is their own and once in a while we are the beneficiaries of collateral benefits. If we don't want integration and absorption then we must have some kind of independence where the UK don't have the last word. We must work on achieving that. Eventually we will be imperially legislated into compliance with no say.

C.S. Crime back with the smoke and the mirrors.
    Mr. Rawat pressed further.

“Do you know if the Premier’s Office was aware that Mr. Skelton-Cline, who is Grace Consulting, had previously been criticised by the auditor general in relation to his work on the Neighbourhood Partnership Project?” he asked, referencing a 2009-2010 project that ended amid recriminations and questions over Mr. Skelton-Cline’s use of nearly $572,000 in taxpayer money.

Dr. O’Neal-Morton responded, “I’m not sure that I’m aware of it.”

What does the UK gain by controlling the BVI? A headache?
What resources are the UK going to control from the BVI? The Sun, Sand and Sea?

So its the UK fault that schools, roads, water, sewage, tourism and overall infrastructure is a complete mess despite local govt spending 400 mil annually?? Our budget is equivalent to $13,000 PER PERSON in our population and ALL OF THAT IS LOCAL SPEND, nothing to do with the UK. So ask yourself why we have a COI again? Regardless of what we know about the UK with respect to race, power or motives, the point is we put ourselves here.

The COI is investigating BVI-based corruption.

Global Britain does not care about the BVI.

The COI is the UK saying 'we ultimately have responsibilities towards this territory/nation/ pieces of land/ people. If the BVI want independence, fine, but there needs to be a managed process. The BVI may not want independence. Also fine, but we the UK government (who underpin the BVI's international financial credit rating btw...) need to ensure the very small, economically advantaged, political elite are being responsible when they are elected to power, rather than exploiting the hard-working, honest local BVI Islander'.

    I know, I know:
the very small, economically advantaged, political elite in the UK are also behaving disgustingly. Their time will come. It is an equally valid conversation, but it does not stop the valid conversation about the COI continuing at the same time.

Anyone can chose to believe the above or not, but it is true - the UK Government does not care about BVI; the OT's; or anyone else, unless they are willing to bring some money to the UK. The BVI will never ever ever ever EVER provide a net gain to the UK financially so, trust me, a take over is not a desirable state for the UK Gov. Instead, ironically, a takeover would be to help get BVI to a state were it could credibly choose to go independent.
