ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Commissioner of Complaints Mr Elton Georges has paid tribute to murdered Trinidadian Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal, who was gunned down on the morning of May 4, 2014, saying that the attorney was to have been recruited to work in the Territory some years back.

He was speaking at a reception on May 7, 2014 to mark the 5th anniversary of the Complaints Commission held at Maria’s By the Sea.

“Some years ago we were on the verge of recruiting a brilliant young Trinidadian attorney to be our magistrate, and then her Government stepped in and offered her a great promotion and she didn’t come,” said Georges.

“Then about two years ago in Curacao at our Caribbean Ombudsman Biennial Conference she gave a presentation on the subject of ‘recognizing instances of integrity violation’ as the theme of the conference was integrity as a foundation of good governance,” he said.

“Well…from the news early Sunday morning some people in Port of Spain attacked [her] and shot her dead – Ms Dana Seetahal. So I am asking for a moment of silence [in her memory],” said Georges, before the ceremony got underway.

Let us hope that her passing will motivate others from her community to continue the work that she was so passionate about; promoting peace and justice.

Know what you meant but actually her life was not "wasted". She accomplished a lot during her short stay on this earth. The persons who planned and executed this evil should be regarded as wasted lives.

It seems to always be the brilliant and committed people that seem to threaten those cowards who do the act. She would have been a great addition to any administration.
