Game On & IML Suzuki Marines crowned 2023 Industrial Volleyball League Champions

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The 2023 Industrial Volleyball League organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS) concluded last evening, Thursday, November 23, 2023, with Game On emerging Champions of Zone A and IML Suzuki Marines winning the Zone B Championship.

Game On, who placed third in regular season play, came with their game on to turn back the stiff challenge of One Mart Yachting and Provisioning, who were the champions of regular season play.

The newly crowned champions used their power hitters, Valissa Brathwaite and the ambidextrous Darnel Pollock, to good effect and also saw strong support in the frontcourt defense by former National basketball player Kennedy H. Bass.

Game On won 25-15, 25-18, 25-22, to take the championship in straight sets against worthy opponents.

One Mart Yachting, with supermarket owner and former legislator Mark H. Vanterpool looking on in the bleachers, came close to winning the third set but Game On were up to the task.

Harneys place 3rd in Zone A

In the Zone A Third Place Game, Harneys, with the likes of national football player Kavon Troy Caesar, Lynette Gumbs, and Stephen Payne, overcame a strong Republic Bank Blue Thunder, 23-25, 25-19, 15-9.

Republic Bank Blue Thunder had a solid team, with Kenrick Thomas and Kymal T. Panchoo in their line-up; however, they were denied a trophy by the determined Harneys.

IML Suzuki Marines are Zone B champs

The Zone B championship game saw IML Suzuki Marines and SDA Family Matters battling it out in 5 sets, with Suzuki Marines eventually prevailing, 25-18, 15-25-18-25, 25-13, 15-5.

It was sweet revenge for IML Suzuki Marines who were beaten by Family Matters in regular season play.

SDA Family Matters won the regular season by playing unbeaten, Suzuki Marines were second and One Mart Superstore were third.

One Mart Superstore 3rd in Zone B

One Mart Superstore also took third place in the championships by defeating RTW Blazers 25-21, 25-20 in the battle of the supermarkets last evening.

At the presentation ceremony, the coordinator of the 2023 Industrial Volleyball League, Sharlene Hill, thanked the teams, referees, scorers, and all those who played a part in making the league a success.
