PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI- The BVI Financial Services Commission (FSC) has announced the return of Meet the Regulator Forum under the theme ‘Embracing Change, Fuelling Progress’.

The theme; however, does not seem to factor in the media, which is surprisingly being severely censored by the FSC.

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) has invited the media to cover the event slated for October 3, 2023, at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H Lavity Stoutt Community College in Paraquita Bay, but has sensationally informed that it will not allow still photography, video recording, streaming or interviews of FSC personnel by the media at the forum.

Why media censorship?

The reasons for the censorship are unknown as, up to the time of publication, FSC did not respond to our request for comment.

According to a press release from FSC on September 22, 2023, presenters at Meet the Regulators Forum will immerse attendees in updates on trending issues and expected changes to the international and local financial services regulatory and legislative landscape.

It said attendees will also have the opportunity to engage podium representatives through questions and feedback regarding industry players’ appetite for improvements to the VI’s financial services product offerings and the Commission’s service standards.

The established BVI media has proved again that it knows nothing about financial services, and its questions tend to completely miss the point. Is there any media person that can ask a sensible question.

Lazy media persons just want to show up then push buttons on various electronic devises to record this forum. The only censor ship here is for lazy journalists. Competent journalists in the media will leave all their electronic devises at their office and show up with plenty of writing paper and pens to take notes during the forum. Of course taking accurate notes requires good cursive writing skills and an intelligent mind to distinguish between the essential and non essential points during the forum. Good luck at the forum for those talented journalist that possess these useful skills. The electronic addicts need to learn how to write and think simultaneously!

If the company does not want their employees to be photographed or interviewed at a work function then it is what it is. If you have any questions then send those questions or concerns to the Board of Directors or Managing Director himself. Financial Services in the Territory is an economic pillar and the FSC does every effort to protect that economic pillar and BVI's brand from any sort misinformation such as this article that may seek to put the Regulator and the BVI in a bad light.

Why is it months to get as reply? Why does FSC need 4 buildings? Why are companies with a local trade licence treated like international firms? Why does a company selling food etc have to do all the forms? Why is it so complicated and expensive, the Companies Act was $25 plus $75 for an annual return? What happened to the micro business company act?

It is Glenford Malone pulling the strings in the background not Brodrick.
