From teaching to music ministry, Donna D. Clyne continues to impact generations
Psalmist Clyne was a teacher for 16 years and then Assistant Principal for 10 years at the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS), ending her 26-year career in education in 2020.
She told our news centre in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, that ministry has always been a part of her life, but she was a teacher first.
“God had been speaking to me for a while about becoming full-time in ministry, and I was hesitant, and I was more fearful than anything…But I do know that I had delayed God’s instructions and eventually, what God wants, he gets, so I had to obey.”
She admitted that worries about not knowing anything about the music industry and being unsure if she had the right connections also hindered her for a bit.
It wasn’t until she put herself out there that she realised that the people relationships she was able to connect with and grow in were all she needed.
A walk of faith
“So once you obey God, He brings everything together…Of course, it was a scary thought, not knowing if I was going to have a sure salary; it’s a walk of faith, and God has proven himself every month, every year. But, I had to draw closer to Him, put my hand in the master’s hand and let Him lead me.”
Answering God’s call led to the formation of Wisdom And Worship Incorporated (WAWI). Its mission is simple: ‘Uniting hearts and minds with God’s word’. The vision, based on Colossians 3:16, is even simpler: ‘To Edify, Empower and Enrich God’s People’.
Psalmist Clyne has written and co-written several songs and has released 11 songs in what she described as a short time, including God is blessing Me, Mountain Mover, Intimate Moments, Better Days and God is still God.
Currently, she is promoting her first music video for Mountain Mover, released earlier this year, while still getting acquainted with studio life.
While she has released many singles, Clyne said she does not foresee an album in the near future and plans to keep releasing singles.
“It’s the wisest thing to do right now because then your songs don’t get lost.” She explained that with an album with 13 or 14 songs, only a few might resonate with the masses.
“Please look forward to more singles, and maybe an EP but not an album just yet, and definitely more music videos”.
Music, she added, is so powerful that it grips the attention of the youth.
“Don’t we need more songs that build up their desire and their passion for God? Because so many songs are causing them to do so much that is not good, there’s so much out there that it’s coming from the messages in the music…I want God to be glorified.”
Training others to be better ministers
Training others in praise and worship, and those in music ministry, is also part of this former teacher’s calling.
She said that through her training, she wants to help them perfect and enhance what they’re doing for God’s glory.
“I just want to continue spreading the gospel in song. I want to help lead others to Christ, and I believe that happens through the word in song. I want to train worship teams to present their gifts to God with excellence.”
Psalmist Clyne added that she wants to do all these things while being the woman God has called her to be.
“It’s not that we won’t have issues; neither one of us is perfect, but you have to want to be better.”
In aiming to be better in ministry, Psalmist Clyne added that it must be understood that it is not entertainment.
“It’s sad what we are seeing now. I want more songs to go out from a pure heart, a pure place, and for generations to come, I want them to remember the songs from Psalmist Donna Clyne. We know some of the songs that we remember from some of the greatest. I want to be one who, when they sing the songs, they hear the songs, their life and the lives of others are changed.”
Deal with the spirit of fear
To those battling with whether or not ot obey God’s call, Clyne said, “Deal with that spirit of fear. That can grip you, that can keep you bound, that spirit of fear. You have to believe God.”
She also advises practising prayer and fasting, shutting doubts, assumptions, what ifs and praying for good support.
Psalmist Clyne also advises others to have discernment, encouraging them to disconnect from bad sources. “You would know who they are. It could be family, it could be a close friend, it could be a coworker, a church member, unfortunately. You’re going to have to disconnect from bad sources no matter how good they may look or seem….you’ve got to be discerning because you never really know.”
Psalmist Clyne is currently ministering at a crusade in Pockwood Pond this week and will be ministering at several churches locally, regionally and internationally. She also has a few concerts and nights of worship coming up soon.
