ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alwin James has described the latest homicide in the Virgin Islands (VI) as an example of reckless, impulsive acts of violence that have started to trend locally.

On Friday, November 6, 2020, a man identified as Everton McMaster Jr. 43, was reportedly pronounced dead at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital after a shooting indecent at Baughers Bay after 3:00 pm yesterday afternoon.

Deputy CoP Mr James via a release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said with a firearm in the mix, loss of life is almost inevitable as he appealed for the public to report persons with illegal weapons.

Do your part to report weapons – Dept CoP Alwin James

The RVIPF reported that ahead of Friday's shooting, four persons were arrested and charged for firearm possession after the discovery of a Glock pistol and a loaded magazine during a search executed at a location in Nanny Cay on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

"Jointly charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm were Reno Alphonso and Paige Weeks, both 26, of no fixed place of abode. Vezya Douglas, 19, of Sea Cows Bay and Jazmyn Christopher, 19, of Fort Hill were also charged. All four appeared before the Magistrate’s Court. Alphonso and Weeks were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison while Douglas and Christopher were granted bail in the sum $40,000," the release said.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, “In this year alone, the RVIPF seized 18 illegal firearms including the one confiscated this week, however, there are sadly too many more out there. It is incumbent that we all engage in this fight by reporting to Police the owners of illegal firearms and places where they are hidden.”

Information will be kept under strict confidence - RVIPF

The RVIPF is further appealing to the public and persons with information about the identity of the individual responsible for Friday’s shooting to contact the Force's Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

Police say all information will be held in the strictest confidence.

The biggest leak of information is the police department . Anytime some is arrested or kill the police leak their pictures and why they got arrested for

Agreed it is police work. But how do they seek public assistance??? They post it on media sites..they can seek public assistance by going door to door they rather stay at their desk and wait for people to call them..and that is stupid they should be in the field

Smart Policing .....Treat firearm possession as attemepted murder or murder and give heavy sentences, VI is small we know who are the criminal or who show criminal intent, by preventive and monitor those people.

If the court system continue to just give a little slap on the wrist for gun and ammunition possession, then who is going to take the law serious ????

It’s more sad the BVI Black Lives Matter Organization don’t know what to stand up for. We’ve had black on black crime since they’ve been an organization and not once Sin D and her crew said anything about any of the recent crimes. All Sin D do is sit and look for faults of the BVI Government. Those who sit only to look for faults only are not a good leader. BVI Black Lives Matter is a waste of time and all those involved should be ashamed of themselves....

Incredible that people charged with possession of arms are released on bail. Unreal. It just encourages the use of guns.

It depends on who you are related to around the BVI since many complaints have been made against a government department head concerning gun threats and nothing was done, now all of a sudden everybody demanding stiffer punishment.
When it is just a matter of wrong place at wrong time.

you left out the road town police station and some of the workers because when police gets hands on the dope where does it go or you are one of those residents that think road police burns all that dope. in who's pocket does all that cash confiscated goes. who video tapes when police officers execute search warrants remember it is public knowledge members of police departments went before the high court of justice in this country for evidence tampering or you think that police are squeaky clean. update your hot spots

If you use your head and not think out your backside you would know that if the police patrol these areas on a regular the same man that came into the district and did this would think twice because he wouldnt want to meet up with the cops so its not about the black people gathering its about protecting the gathering
