ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands, especially the pageant fraternity, is mourning the death of Miss British Virgin Islands 1994 Khara Michelle Forbes who passed away last weekend after a battle with cancer.

Forbes had won the Miss World BVI crown at age 18 in July 1994, beating out Nikki Rubaine, Najan Christopher, Shonia Matthews and Susanna V.R. Ophelia at Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

She also won the Miss Intellect, Miss Poise, and Miss Photogenic awards.

Forbes then went on to represent the territory in the Miss World Pageant in Sun City, South Africa in November of 1994.

“She was beautiful, graceful, intelligent and phenomenal lady and Queen. She represented the BVI with pride, grace and poise,” CEO of Summer Sizzle BVI Terry T. Donovan, who was the Miss BVI World Pageant Director in 1994, shared in a social media post.

Deepest sympathy. On another note, how come the Governor does recognize certain persons who may very well be deserving of recognition but seem to be things which fit in the Governor and his kind culture and lifestyle but people like Ms Fahie who does a good job for years with the cancer society cannot get a MBE.

Although it might not have been your intention, your comments seem insensitive and disrespectful. This is not the time or place.

SOMEONE HAS TO NOMINATE A PERSON FOR HONOURS. STOP COMPLAINING, DO RESEARCH AND NOMINATE HER YOURSELF

@WOW, her turn will come. She just need to let the families greaves. Everything for her should not be a big social announcement. The families capable of that.

This is so very true.....she posts everything everywhere before the family can get a grip of what's going on. Her cousin Judy Smith just as bad.....make the dog sick.

Oh please. As usual some of you only see the weaknesses of your people rather than their strengths which far outweigh their weaknesses. Any way let me mind my own business.

@ Concerned. You couldn’t have said it any better. I am in full agreement with your statement and as an adult the President should be more empathetic

@Concerned. You couldn’t have said it any better. I totally agree with the latter part of your statement but as an adult the President should allow common sense to dictate and be more empathetic to the feelings of the grieving families instead of taking to social media before the family can do so. It’s time to run these organizations with some kind of class.and treat others the way you would want to be treated.

I guess she knows now how some of you truly feel about her. Maybe she should denounce her BVI citizenship and announce she is a foreigner and take care of animals then she will be loved and given an MBE. What a set of ungrateful people in BVI. Luckily people like ayo are in the minority. Since ayo feel this way about her than you should have called her directly and tell her but you chose to try to degrade her on this forum. Fire burn ayo.

Hmmm..Did she reside or spend lengthy time in the Western area inhaling the deadly fumes of the Municipal fire burn courtesy of her elected Government. Did any of her relatives also succumb to the same fate? Just asking.
They should be barred from such funerals.
My sincere condolences to her grieving friends and relatives. Another bright light has gone!

I believe this is the 3rd death in three years from that family from cancer related. All resided in west end with exception of ms forbes who left but frequently visited over the years. It is a valid question as there must be a correlation with persons from the west and the dying rates of cancer or respiratory related diseases.

People dying from cancer all over the world, not just in the western end of Tortola as you put it.
