McNAMARA, Tortola, VI - Former Minister for Health and Social Development and former President of the ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Carvin Malone has died, according to information reaching our News Centre.

Reports reaching our newsroom are that around 2:00 AM this morning, Sunday, January 14, 2024, Mr Malone was found to be unresponsive and was then rushed to Dr D. Olando Smith Hospital in Road Town, the capital city, where it is believed he suffered a brain aneurysm.

The former legislator reportedly passed away after being in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Mr Malone served as the Minister for Health and Social Development (2019-2022) during one of the most difficult times of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

He was also a VIP Member and was its long-time President, before entering elective office. He was defeated in the 2023 General Elections in his bid for a second term, however, Mr. Malone remained very active in educating the public on topical issues with his One Virgin Islands Agenda platform.

Legislator & Businessman

At the time of passing, Mr Malone was 64 years of age, having been born on June 12, 1959.

He was also a long-time successful businessman.

While in the hospital, along with immediate family, friends, and many well wishes, Mr Malone received visits from Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5).

Our News Centre understands Mr Malone had also received visits from Deputy Premier Hon Lorna G. Smith (AL) and husband Dr D. Orlando Smith, along with Ministers Hon Sharie B. De Castro (AL) and Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4), Opposition Leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), Opposition Member Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and former legislators Dr Kedrick D. Pickering and Neville A. You should have just posted your condolence and left it there. Rather, you go on to insinuate Mr. Malone was not negligent relative to his health. That's foul.

First you need to educate yourself on what a intracranial aneurysm is. Just that you know, most people who have aneurysms are unware they have them. You may have one right now, and may not be aware of it until something bad happens.

A person may have some chronic headaches along the way as a warning sign but most people dismiss them as just headaches and take some pain meds. They often go undiagnosed, but most people simply don't know they have one until they they rupture leading to a stroke, intracranial bleeding, or sudden death.

Quite often people with intracranial aneurysms have high blood pressure which if very high can cause these aneurysms to rupture. When they rupture, it's an medical emergency that needs immediate neurosurgical surgical intervention. Person needs to get to a medical center with neurosurgical staff to treat right away as time is of the essence.

Even with surgical intervention, depending on the degree of rupture, and timing of surgical intervention, recovery, full recovery is often modest. It comes down to timing of diagnosis and treatment.

Unfortunately, there are no neurosurgeons on this island. The closest is Puerto Rico. It's quite unfortunate this has happened to Mr. Malone. It's of no fault of his own.

My sincere condolence to his entire family. He was a good man, and a proud BVI Islander. He loved this country and believed in its future. I followed his Facebook postings. Just last week, he posted about having a lobster dinner in Jos Van Dye.

Life...life...can be strange. It's short. Enjoy everyday as if it's your last. Thank God everyday when you awaken and see the sunlight because it may be your last.

@ everyone with the negative comments. I was not trying to be negative just honest. I know alot about medicine- most of my long bush parna dem call me the head doctor for a reason. Alot of these medical conditions could be prevented and avoid, just simply monitoring your blood pressure and living a healthy lifestyle to avoid HBP. Its sad it got to this point as he gave me work during Irma on my truck dem so I didnt have only my income from selling starfish to make ends meet. RIP my boy and VIP all the way.

@ Mike Larry. There is nothing honest about suggesting that a person may not have gotten themselves checked out given their background as a former Health Minister.

          Your words exactly were:

"Like the man didnt even get he health checked out on a regular. Mayb he just had a weak constitution or was all lay lay up and saucy."

You then go on to say you did not know. If you don't know something, just don't speak on it. It's hurtful to the people who loved Mr. Malone and his family. Also, there is a time and place for everything, and certainly as we all heard this shocking news was not the time for you to say what you did.

For someone who you said gave you work during Irma on your truck to help make ends meet, you should have been more respectful and grateful to him in death. Words matter.

Think before you speak. Just do better, and be sensitive to the grieving family.

I am saddened with the news of the death of Hon. Carvin Malone. He was such a progressive person who strives to educate the population on issues of the constitution. His death left a void in the Territory that will certainly be difficult to fill. With his sound knowledge of the history of the Virgin Islands and the constitutional progress of this Territory, one wonders who will fill the void. Because he was not doing it for himself but for the people. Now that he is gone to his eternal home, may his soul R.I.P.

BVI people please take heed. Those who have ears and eyes let them see and hear. These people are like the mafia. They have a cabal system. They have evil spiritual people hired as consultants in certain law enforcement areas and paying them out of tax payers money as experts to guide them and show them who is against their agenda and how to eliminate them in a way where it can never be traced back to them. This is real but the people are fast a sleep by their design. Look at who all died or they moved out of the way but make it look like their hands are clean with Sam, Carvin, Wade, Fahie, the white UK officer that died, Najan, Myron, just to name a few that they know are a threat to what they trying to achieve. Look out this week for them to do something drastically major to further abuse their powers and instill more fear in the people to warn them not to interfere with their wicked agenda. The BVI people need to pray and unite against this colonial dragon or they will be in bondage crying for years. This is for real just watch this week and see.

In case you have doubts - we are ALL going to die. That includes those you describe as the "forced" and those whom I presume were unforced. I took the vaccine - any pressure I felt didn't come from any local source, it came from the desire to be able to travel and interact internationally.

Yeah...go check the white colonial masters who are into spiritual wickedness so they can eliminate anyone who opposes their unjustified attempt at their wicked take over plan. God is getting ready to deal with them.

A giant of a voice for a better and free Virgin Islands has fallen. He was a good man who cared about the wellbeing of the people and the entire Virgin islands. Condolences to his entire family, especially his wife at this time. May his soul rest in peace, but in the spiritual realm, some believe he will continue to be like the Prince of Persia in the heavenlies o/b/o the Virgin Islands -- withstanding ' them..'
We must carry on his Agenda. No time to bat tired eyes. Let us not lose faith. People of the Virgin Islands, let the true Joshuas, Calebs, Moses and Esthers arise!! We need you now!!

The Lord gave us to each other just for a short time. Love, compassion and appreciation he have given us to share and enjoy for, and with each other. He calls us home in his own time. This brother has done his work on earth and now waits to welcome you and I to our place in god's kingdom . Peace and comfort to all his family and friends but especially to you Jane. His souls is resting and smiling.

These comments are not good for the soul. For Christians, some of you really need Jesus.

Thank you Mr Malone. I remember watching your broadcasts during the pandemic when we were all very worried and concerned about what was happening.

You were a calming voice amongst the melee and I felt very proud that you were our Minister for Health at that time.

I met you once and shook your hand in North Sound.

May your soul rest in peace and my condolences to your family.
