ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As the highly anticipated Foxy’s HempFest on Jost van Dyke gets going today Saturday, July 13, 2019, headliner and Jamaican reggae artiste Jepther McClymon aka ‘Luciano’ as promised, is putting the conversation around the legalisation of cannabis on the front burner.

Yesterday Friday, July 12, 2019, Luciano caught up with the media where he shared some of what can be expected at tonight’s fest, including what steps the Virgin Islands (VI) should take on the path to legalising cannabis while praising the Territory for its reliance shown during the hurricane devastations of 2017.

Spiritual Inspiration

“I have a lot of fans here and I know after the storm [and] the devastation that took place here, I know the people [have] been no doubt awaiting this kind of spiritual inspiration and encouragement to keep the fire alive and well,” he told the media.

“I am very impressed with what they have done because there’s no doubt that the people have a resilience and they have a strong faith in the almighty, because this is what put them back on their foot,” he said in noting that the VI should give thanks that the storm happened in the day and not the night since things could have been worse.

According to Luciano, the people of the VI needs to continue on the good path of love and righteousness so that youths can be inspired towards a bright future.

Legalise cannabis – Luciano

“Right around the world this is a topic that is well attended, and people all over are welcoming the changed that we see happening,” he said in relation to the legalisation of cannabis in places like Jamaica, Canada, St. Vincent and other countries.

Luciano charged, “The herb was given by the Almighty as a healing for the nation so there’s no need to fight it… I want to encourage them [VI Leaders] to follow what the other leaders are doing,” he said given the healing properties of the cannabis and its growing acceptance globally.

For the 2019 edition of the HempFest, the day will feature a Vendor’s Market and Fashion Show, with the evening musical lineup championed by artists like JahLand, MP3, IllMindz and Ritical, with Luciano as the headliner.

Other Keynote Speakers will include Virgin Islands (VI) legislator, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Senator Positive T.A. Nelson from St Croix, US Virgin Islands (USVI), both aiming to sensitise the public on the benefits of Cannabis to the VI economy.

sometimes we have to take into consideration the BVI is a small community while somethings might be favourable within bigger communities we should exercise caution in BVI: have nothing against the movement of marijuana smoking; its cultivation and its Marketing...I recall the days back in the 70s when some of our former legislators passed laws and made sure that fines and prison time for marijuana possession was high: fast forward to 2019 the same marijuana now trading on the stock market and all manner of high level discussions: live & direct !!!! U know what live and direct mean!!!!

If the BVI legalises it do so in a way which controls it and taxes it. It should be a revenue source.

Separately, allow BVI entities to be used for cannabis structures where lawful where the activity is conducted. It is a booming area of cross-border investment - something the BVI economy is based on, but which in respect of cannabis structures is presently illegal.
