LONDON, UK – Former UK Prime Minister, David W.D. Cameron earned about $10M US Dollars from finance firm Greensill Capital before the company’s collapse, documents leaked to the BBC has shown.

Cameron, a close friend of the controversial former ex-Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI) Augustus J.U. Jaspert, was flagged for being at the centre of Britain’s biggest lobbying scandal after it emerged he pressed senior ministers and officials to include Greensill Capital in a coronavirus lending scheme.

Cameron earned huge $$ after lobbying for firm

In an extensive BBC report of August 9, 2021, documents revealed that Mr Cameron was going to be paid $4,569,851.60 (about £3.3m) after tax for a tranche of his Greensill shares, according to a letter from the firm to Cameron obtained by the BBC Panorama programme.

Cameron also received a salary of $1 million a year as a part-time adviser and was paid a bonus of $700,000 in 2019. In total, the programme alleges the documents suggest he made around $10 million US before tax for two-and-a-half years’ part-time work.

While the details about Mr Cameron's shares were revealed in a letter from Greensill Capital to the former prime minister, Panorama did not see Mr Cameron's signed acceptance of the offer, but the letter records that he had already agreed to the deal.

Investors & Taxpayers facing huge losses

Mr Cameron's spokesman said, “He acted in good faith at all times and there was no wrongdoing in any of the actions he took," however, Panorama has discovered how the company Mr Cameron promoted has left investors and UK taxpayers facing huge losses.

Following Greensill’s collapse in March, some 3,000 jobs at a steel manufacturer were left at risk and investigations have been opened into the company’s activities in the UK, Germany, and elsewhere.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Labour Party, Angela Rayner, said it was “utterly ludicrous” that Cameron had made such a large sum.

While as VI Governor, Mr Jaspert in January 2021 had launched a hastily called Commission of Inquiry (CoI) over unfounded allegations of corruption in the VI Government of Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

Most of the allegations were based on rumours, which Mr Jaspert himself had admitted.

Hypocritically, in the face of strong evidence, UK public officials are cleared after questionable practices.

'One rule for them & another for everyone else'- Labor Party Deputy

Ms Rayner, speaking on Mr Cameron being cleared of wrongdoing said, “The fact that David Cameron was cleared… proves that the rules that are supposed to regulate lobbying are completely unfit for purpose. It’s created a Wild West where the Conservatives think it’s one rule for them and another for everyone else,” she said.

In a tweet this afternoon, August 9, 2021, Ms Rayner further said, “$10 million for part-time dodgy lobbying for a company that collapsed, risking thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money? An absolute joke that this can ever be allowed to happen. The Tories take care of themselves and themselves only."

What does this story have to do with us and COI. The Governor already gone. We looking at others mishaps and trying to defend ours. Those in the UK will get theirs just like us will.

I would not believe anything g reported on the dodgy left wing BBC, and would assume that anything reported on the dreadfully biased Panorama was a lie.

It is not advisable to follow any of the lines from Angela Rayner if a publication wants any semblance of credibility.
Added to that, the enquiry has stated there was no wrongdoing and his actions were around promoting and saving the company. He was not in a position to know what Lex Greensill was up to.

There are others who suspected or should have known, and that is where the scandal lies. Plus don’t dig too deeply lest you want to know BVI companies were also involved… glass houses and all that.

They skim over that he paid about 2m in tax which funds public services. The politics of jealousy are ugly and encapsulated in Rayner

You do realize that by equating the pot and kettles bottoms this basically admitting that something is wrong with the way we do things in the BVI, and you only highlighting the hypocrisy of UK politicians.
Even if the UK is full of hypocrite, are we ok with corruption as a principal or in practice?
      Just asking for a freind

It's not that we ok with corruption but what the article shows is that the UK has no moral high grounds to scrutinize the BVI for allegations of corruption. Even if corruption does exist in the BVI who is to say that the presence of the UK will equate the absence of such corruption?
        • Yeah but (10/08/2021, 21:05) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
So we agree that the UK are hypocrites, and their presence may not result in less corruption.
But We don't seem interested in holding our leaders accountable, but when someone else does, we get defensive. We spend a lot of time taking shots at the messenger when the message remains that we have mismanagement and corruption in the BVI. More mismanagement than corruption, but we still have issues that need to be handled.

I seriously doubt Cameron even knows who Jaspert is. The UK is somewhat bigger than BVI.

try not to be a nasty racist. a crook is a crook. A chancer politician is a chancer politician. A businessperson is just that also. The World doesn't need you ugly racists.

Plus, nobody is saying he did anything corrupt at all. He was paid years after being a politician by a company to attract business, whether that worked or not. The fact that Lex cooked up a fraud with Gupta et al was not to do with DC. Even his enemies don't allege that.

Their bread is buttered in the millions individually meanwhile persons are outraged at a few thousand in stimulus after UK funding was denied and told us the vi had healthy reserves to fund our own initiative.

The young & old are incarcerated for harmless plant matter under the governors portfolio that no local politician voted to remain illegal. We await assent to have the records cleared. While the alleged UK prince of sexual misconduct is free as a bird unless he steps foot in the US.

Where is your evidence to prove that all pastors are corrupted? In the court of God who made you a judge?
Did you knew all the activites of past pastor? No, you don't. Do you know the activities of all present pastors? No, you don't. Do you know that you are a liar? Yes, you do. The bible says, Let God be true, and every man a liar." Did you knew that? No, you did not. God loves you and He also corruoted pastors, but He hates corruption, and lies too.

    1) What Cameron may have done, does not reflect on Jaspert.
    2) Former Governor Jaspert is neither controversial nor embattled, except to a few, who are even more controversial and seriously embattled.
    3) The allegations of corruption in the BVI are not unfounded. They have been exposed.
