Fleming House are ESHS Champions!
As the final day unfurled, it was clear early on that Fleming had put in such a dominant display that the title was all but assured. The real battle became the one for second place though, with last year’s winners, Carlisle and O’Neal taking their battle royale deep into the 4 x 400m relays.
In fact it was in the very last event, the Senior Boys relay that O’Neal held off Carlisle to win the race and secure the points that gave them a share of the runner up position.
Lettsome House finished 4th on 531.
“I feel very good about the hard work we put in” commented Fleming House Captain Bianca Dougan “we came out here and did what we had to do, stayed humble in the beginning, unlike some other houses and came away with the Crown in both the Cheerleading and the track.
On overcoming last Year’s Champions Carlisle, Clarke had inspired her team with a few short words “I told the team that in my years at High School I never walked behind Carlisle House and it wasn’t happening again, so they went out and worked hard to win.”
Niayla Smith of Fleming House was named as the 2013 Victrix, who said the Long Jump had been her favourite event of the many she did, also added “I am speechless; I came out to have fun and can’t believe I won.”
The 2013 Victor was Akeem Bradshaw of Carlisle House “The first day I looked to do well in the 1500 and relay, then on the second day the 800 , the Long Jump and the 4 x 400 all went well… I nearly broke a record so [I] will be back next year.”
Several records were in fact broken, including a sprint double win for Nelda Huggins, who added a new record in the 200m to the one she gained in the 100m, with her winning time of 24.33.
‘I feel happy and excited about my performances” she noted “in the 200 I stumbled at the beginning but picked myself up.”
Kyron McMaster made it a hat trick of best times with a personal best in the boys 200 adding his time of 22.41 to his 11.25 in the 100 and 50.49 in the 400.
“I got out good, but wanted a faster time in the 200, but overall I’m happy”
Leshawn Lyndo also set a new sprint double with times of 12.61 in the 100 and 25.56 in the 200. Dylan Moses raised the distances in both the Shot and Discuss. Beyonce Defreitas set a new time of 59.17 in the junior 400; Javelyn Frett lengthened the senior girl’s shot put to 9.15, whilst D’jimon Gumbs threw the shot 12.49 and the Javelin 39.68 to establish new meet records.
Eldred Henry also increased the senior shot record to 15.52, but the most exciting of all the new records now belongs to Judine Lacey, Sh’Keida Lavacia, Kelz Fortune and Tarika Moses of Fleming House. The quartet set a blistering time around the mondo track in the 4 x 400 finishing in a scorching 4.00.70.
Lacey, Lavacia, Moses and Ashley Penn had also set a new record in the 4 x 100 of 49.40.
Individual Champions were also named with Defreitas taking the Junior Girls and Jelani Norman the Boys. In the Intermediate division Ashley Penn took the honour “I didn’t realize I was the division champ so I was quite surprised. I came second in the Javelin which I really enjoyed as usually I can’t get it to stick in the ground.”
Akeem Bradshaw was named as boy’s champion, whilst in the Seniors Dominic Adams and Aundre Turnbull shared the Boys title and Niayla Smith won the girls.
