ANNA'S RETREAT, St Thomas, USVI - Five people were shot early morning Saturday, October 24, 2020, in St. Thomas near the Four Winds Plaza Shopping Center, the USVI Police Department has confirmed.

Of the five, one victim succumbed to his wounds, carrying the territory's homicide count in 2020 to 43.

Police responded to the incident at about 4:37 a.m., according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima. The Medical Examiner was still on the scene after 8:00 a.m. collecting the deceased victim's body. The V.I.P.D. also announced the incident on Twitter this morning.

According to Mr. Derima, the four other victims were at the Schneider Regional Medical Center receiving care. It was not yet determined the seriousness of the injured victims' wounds.

The deceased victim was identified by next of kin as 29-year-old Joseph Andrews.

42nd homicide just last week

A week earlier, the territory's 42nd homicide occurred on St. Croix in Williams Delight, when a 28-year-old man named Olson Tyson was shot to death during the night of Oct. 16.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr recently appealed to the community to help law enforcement in bringing criminals to justice. "We have to stand as one people to establish wrong from right and discontinue our silent overlooking of wrong that happens in our community," said the governor during his Covid-19 response update on Oct. 13.

"Whether it's an illegal horse track, drag racing, prostitution, loitering in places where you don't belong, the illegal numbers game and the gambling houses, trespassing — all these things we have to say no more to as a community."

But yet we don’t see anything wrong with legalized gambling in the BVI.. smh

Father, our Creator and many of us Savior, I thank and praise you for your compassionate Heart of love for fallen humanity, that have fallen from you gloious grace, because of our fore parents rebellion against You. I lift up the citizens and next door neighbors in the usvi. May you shield them from the wrath of the evil one, whose sole mission is the destruction of Your family. We who reside in the B.V.I are equally as guilty of sins before you, as they are. May those in leadership positions understand that they are each personally responsible to you, to seek guidance from you, that in so doing, You will lead them to victory against all manner of crime. May You continue to speak to theirs and ours minds, that You are our only protection against all the works of darkness, not money, not physical education, not guns, or anything that You have Created. Please Lord, You know, and you have informed us by Your wrtten Words that were recorded in "THE BIBLE" that we must not seek, nor should after false gods. Jesus told us that Satan is the god of the world. The world is in chaos. We all are suffering grately from the many pains of crimes. Bless Your people of the beautiful usvi. For by Your Almighty power, and victorious guidance only, will these challenges be conquored. These favors of asked of You in Your Holy Son's name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
