First two of many promises – Parillon
George and Georges will be joining up with the North Carolina Select Basketball team and then will be heading to Preparatory School at the Mount Zion Christian Academy.
“These two are the first of many to come this year,” stated Parillon.Last year, seven players got placements in various colleges and for 2012 Parillon predicts at least 15 players, including two girls will be heading Stateside to further their Basketball skills and education.
Coach Kennedy, who took a Post Drill at the VI Showcase, was impressed with both the Forwards’ height and ability.
“Charlesworth impressed with his fundamental skills, humble attitude and Shamarr he saw as a more raw athletic talent that the coach thought was moldable into a better player,” added Parillon.
Georges, who is 6ft 4” is definitely looking forward to the experience. “I’m excited to get away and represent the BVI in any way possible. I will do my best to better myself as a student and a basketball player,” he said.
He played for Another Level in the 2011 domestic season and although he will miss them for 2012, he has a firm focus on what he can achieve. “I’m taking it step by step, college is first and then if not the NBA, then Europe,” he said.
George, 6ft 5”, also excited with the opportunity, was impressed with what Coach Kennedy had to say, “he told me he saw lots of potential in me and saw a likeness to Kevin Durant.”
North Carolina Select currently fields only one U17 team that competes in the highest division of competition in each tournament that they attend. It is a Select Team and their routine of training and conditioning regimen is not for individuals that aren't serious about the game of basketball.
The goal of the programme is to positively prepare student-athletes with a love for the game of Basketball for the peaks and valleys of success in Life and Basketball (on and off the court). They utilize the methods of training, preparation and conduct observed in working with professional and collegiate programmes as a model for developing teams and players.
