ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Founder of the Hoop It Up Foundation, Steve Parillon announced on Friday April 28, 2012, that Shamarr George and Charlesworth Georges were off to play Summer League Basketball as a direct result of the recent VI Showcase held in the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

George and Georges will be joining up with the North Carolina Select Basketball team and then will be heading to Preparatory School at the Mount Zion Christian Academy.

“These two are the first of many to come this year,” stated Parillon.

Last year, seven players got placements in various colleges and for 2012 Parillon predicts at least 15 players, including two girls will be heading Stateside to further their Basketball skills and education.

Coach Kennedy, who took a Post Drill at the VI Showcase, was impressed with both the Forwards’ height and ability.

“Charlesworth impressed with his fundamental skills, humble attitude and Shamarr he saw as a more raw athletic talent that the coach thought was moldable into a better player,” added Parillon.

Georges, who is 6ft 4” is definitely looking forward to the experience. “I’m excited to get away and represent the BVI in any way possible. I will do my best to better myself as a student and a basketball player,” he said.

He played for Another Level in the 2011 domestic season and although he will miss them for 2012, he has a firm focus on what he can achieve. “I’m taking it step by step, college is first and then if not the NBA, then Europe,” he said.

George, 6ft 5”, also excited with the opportunity, was impressed with what Coach Kennedy had to say, “he told me he saw lots of potential in me and saw a likeness to Kevin Durant.”

North Carolina Select currently fields only one U17 team that competes in the highest division of competition in each tournament that they attend. It is a Select Team and their routine of training and conditioning regimen is not for individuals that aren't serious about the game of basketball.

The goal of the programme is to positively prepare student-athletes with a love for the game of Basketball for the peaks and valleys of success in Life and Basketball (on and off the court). They utilize the methods of training, preparation and conduct observed in working with professional and collegiate programmes as a model for developing teams and players.

This little boy just like to be in thing buddy. Tell us how they going to be funded and why you are not teaming up with the basketball federation to get things going the way it should be. The thing is too many of you all want to be bosses and don't follow rules and that is exactly how the sports running in the bvi.

maybe those on the basketball federation should answer this question- in the meantime it dont matter who puts in the behind the scenes work, as long as someone is. Two future stars repping the BVI through hard work and skill is the important thing, not if it this group or that group. If the Federation so inclined then they would be the ones making the announcements and getting the youth their chance overseas. Fact is they too busy bickering amongst themselves with small minded mentality and ego. Parillon has his ego too, but he get results one way or another

The BVIBF would like to commend Mr. Parillon and his team for all they have been contributing to basketball in this territory. To both young men, make the best of this opportunity and I wish you much success in your education, and basketball careers. Just remember you are students before you are athletes. Don't pay attention to the negative comments, God is in control. To Dude, BVI Hoop It Up is sanctioned by the Federation so we are well aware of everything that Mr. Parillon does. To BVI Commission, basketball begins on the 12th of May...come out and support, the Federation is looking for referees, scorers, and people to keep the bathroom clean during the games. Give me a call, I aint hard to find.

Mount Zion Christian Academy has produced some very good college and NBA players such as Tracey McGrady, Amar'e Stoudemire and so on. It's not an easy road, as I do hope you all will go out and give your all in everything that you do and always put God first, always have discipline in the classroom as well as on the court and have a humble approach and a great work ethic. All these are key ingredients to becoming successful. Skies the limit to you all. Good job Steve, continue giving your all to try and open doors for the youths.

Look at these hypocrites on the online site. Here is a good story about young B V Islanders doing big and positive things and we do not see a million comments. But If it was someone stealing or going jail you all mean Tola people would have had the world of things to say. Why the hick you all hate you own people so? Crab in a barrel and slavery mentality makes me sick,
