ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) has called on the Department of Agriculture to “take immediate action” on the vicious attacks being meted out to individuals by stray dogs.

There were previous reports of stray dogs attacking livestock, particularly on Virgin Gorda; however, a woman fell victim to pit bulls on the Sister Island on New Year's Day.

“First livestock destruction (as Lester has reported from time to time), now humans. This lady was attacked on VG by three Pitt bulls yesterday morning in the vicinity of the VG airport. Reports of stray dogs in Shannon on Tortola,” Honourable Malone wrote on his Facebook Page on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

A photograph sent to our newsroom showed the woman with a gaping wound to her left leg.

It is unclear if anyone has been arrested.

I witnessed an attack

Honourable Malone said he was also privy to a recent dog attack.

“I witnessed a resident being chased by a black dog in McNamara next to Castle Maria Hotel. The scared man knocked on my window so hard I had to let him into my vehicle (fully masked) and allow his heart rate to settle. It could have been a disaster! Other reports of joggers being attacked!”

Due to these occurrences, the Minister said “Agriculture [Dept.] and the Humane Society have been called to take IMMEDIATE actions. #dangerous.”

He was right to do so. The true is, some of these leaders need to do their jobs probably and stop acting like intellectual space cadets. They have the highest degrees and still act clueless and responsible. I guess you can’t have it all!

You want and expect the Humane society to jump,in and take care of this. If you haven’t noticed the shelter is bursting at the seams with stray animals. Why doesn’t the Govt offer financial assistance , they desperately need a bigger facility and helping hand. VJ is a one man band he needs help. Together with PAWS they have arranged for hundreds of strays to be flown off island to forever homes. And if you read the amazing article currently in the news Natasha is doing an amazing job of getting these strays neutered with the help of many volunteers. Instead of building some stupid million dollar wall why wont the Govt step up to the plate and build a shelter to help with these strays . They desperately need help financially and physically! The way they prioritize where they spend their money just amazes me. This govt needs to open their eyes to the real needs of this small island. Dog shelter would be a great start!!!

This Christian society needs to be taken to task more for the poor treatment of many animals including each other.

Its a bit much to hear a government minister calling for immediate actions from a volunteer organization desperately trying to make ends meet financially. Dont you have someone already in your pocket for work like this minister?

East End full of them beaches or early morning you see them coming at you. They dont even have them chain, even in there yard they want to rush you walking pass. I going to say this loud, ANY OWNER OF THESE DOGS BITE ME, MAY THEIR BOTH SOULS RIP. This is wrong for people that have dogs on the streets or to see their gates aint locked or they dont have it fence. The court system can not heal my wounds. I want both be put down.

Why would anyone be arrested for a STRAY dog attack? The "stray" part means the dog doesn't belong to anyone.

As usual the stray dog problems are due to no enforcement of the relevant BVI laws concerning dogs. The Joint Task Force and their canines should enforce these laws and stop harassing marine visitors for insignificant paperwork errors.

The human animals on the Island is going to begin setting out poison and their mistreatment of stray animals because a woman claim she was attacked and bitten by 3 stray pit bulls. There is much more to her story that she is not saying. She need to tell exactly how she got that wound on her leg.

And who want to get upset, oh well, go ahead. I agree, there is more to the story that is being told. You cannot always believe everything you hear or maybe see. There is no way 3 pit bulls would attack anyone and just leave a leg wound. To the ones that is talking trash, why not volunteer yourselves and stand before 3 pit bulls and let them attack and see if you are just going to walk away with just a leg wound.

So you personally witnessed a dog attack, so after you allow the man to calm his heart rate down, you went on your merry way? you could have sat down with the Minister of Agriculture and discuss the problem rather than publicly embarrassing him and pushing him under a moving train.

The position of leaders is to lead, not to encourage others to lead,. and they follow. The dog biting people problem in the British Viirgin Islands is first a government leaders problem. Casting the blame elsewhere is hypocritical, as simple as that. Amen.

I am sorry for the point of views of some people who are blogging at the spur of the moment on matters of national importance. Dogs attack are matters of national importance. The Hon. Minister of Health did the correct thing by calling on his colleague to solve the problem and he is not wrong. That is why we elected them to work together to solve problems. Do you expect the Minister to travel to St. Lucia to seek assistance? It is about time the owners of these vicious animals to ensure that these animals are housed properly and given proper veterinary care .

You hear where they attack the woman. Food for thought the whole area need a helicopter and man hunt. Those dogs have owner but of course no one wants to own them now because they attack the woman. You don't own up now let me warn you God's eyes run to and fro. Hide from man you can't hide from the creator of the universe remember that. You don't answer now one day only one day for sure friend and family can't protect you. Hell fire will burn you if you don't repent for your wickedness. More in the mortar
