ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The first-ever Miss Philippines BVI will be crowned next month.

The pageant, organised by the Filipino Association of the BVI, is the first of its kind in the Virgin Islands and will be held at the Save The Seed Energy Centre on June 12, 2026.

According to information received, registration for the pageant is currently ongoing, and to be eligible, prospective contestants must be Filipina, between the ages of 18 and 35, and be proud, confident and ready to inspire.

Little Miss Philippines BVI

The association will also host the Little Miss Philippines BVI on June 12. Open to young girls between the ages of 5 and 10, the Little Miss Phillipine BVI will showcase girls of Filipino descent residing in the VI.

The pageant aims to have the contestants “shine with confidence, grace, and Filipino pride!”

The pageants are being held in celebration of the association’s 15th anniversary.

Efforts to reach organisers of the pageants for further comment and information on the pageants were not successful at the time of publishing.

The Filipino population is among the fastest-growing in the VI and ranks second only to Jamaica among nationalities holding active work permits in the Virgin Islands, according to data shared in the House of Assembly in June 2025.

Miss Phillipine Islands (PI)? Is this a country within a country? I have no recollection of Ms Antigua or Ms. St.Kitts or Md. Anguilla or Ms SVG, or Ms Guyana or Ms Jamaica.etc. What is next Ms. Caucasian? Does St. Thomas have a Ms. BVI?? Does the DR have a Ms. Cocolo? Is this an indication that they are intended to established and live in enclave? Are saying to hell with assimilating? We renewed immigration and labor laws soonest. There are 120 nationalities in the BVI . Is this the precursor of things to come? Hear this is . It is ok for immigrants to celebrate the customs, culture , curtsies., etc.

The 120 nationalities you spoke about was cause by us local politicians and we the people turn a blind eye too it, we fully well know this will cause problems in years to come. One politician comes to mind is Dr Pickering who was elated that we have so many nationalities residing here and becoming citizens maybe he was looking at it from an elections point of view.
Nevertheless you cannot continue to have an open immigration boarder system for the BVI, it's a recipe for disaster.

Them will soon make BVI ladies feel relegated , they should not be in the BVI while black skin Caribbean people are discriminated by the BVI people calling them island people, even Myron whose navel string buried in the BVI soil is discriminated against, but these complexion is ok, and the thing about it is that the UK and the west has ask all its present and former colony to accept them, they are propping up a pro west president in the phillipines because they don't want them to have any working relationship with china who america think is growing stronger, and for their war against china it's the BVI paying for their economic package that is offered to the Filipino, so the BVI leaders are a marionette of UK, they move with alacrity to please the royal family, they so love their colonial masters, and they still go on the side croaking independence.

I dont loathe you because i understand the quagmire from which such cerebral indolence manifests.
in fact...i heard a local man chastise and caution his expat wife against writing to the district representative to suggest regulation and electronic (Decibel meter-monitoring and control of music at public events held in these blessed communities. She was merely offering a solution to a problem which impacts us all

eg- Loud music from modified private vehicle and loud speakers ..especially those occuring 4 and 5 hours AFTER THE EVENTS HAVE CONCLUDED....even up to 10 and 11pm. Stuff like that.

The husband reminded her that she is " NOT from here" and has to be careful not to offend locals and that she 'has to worry about being sent home".

That my friend is the BVI PARADOX. a world class people capable of self-governance and performing at the highest levels of academia, art , science , finance etc on GLOBAL SCALES......yet ...APPARENTLY THERE ARE SOME SHORTCOMINGS...SMH. OMG

This is just the precursor of things to come. Yall stay in the corner and don’t get engaged. In a short while, you will be strangers in your own country. This is the result of having open borders; everyone and sundry come and feel bold and empowered to do as they like. Keep on turning the cheek for more pimp slaps. This was deliberate don’t give a damn action , etc. Another blogger suggested hauling in the ambassador for a chat. The immigration and labor amendments needs to happen soones. We take anything for granted. We cannot assume anything, put changes in place. Uncontrol of migration is putting a strain the education, health, infrastructure, social services, etc. These people are full of themselves, trying to dictate how things should be ran in the BVI.

I don't even want to highlight how ignorant some of these comments have been. I just want to point out that over the last two years alone, the people of the Philippines have gone through multiple earthquakes, typhoons and most recently a volcanic eruption. We love to pull our Irma card and I vividly recall help coming from all over. The Filipino community of the BVI is one of, if not the hardest working communities in the BVI. They have done a lot for us and often do it for cents to our dollars. This community now simply wants to express itself and their pride and potentially raise funds for their families back home and this is how we treat them. I'll end by reminding you that this earth is round. Be good.

I applaud your open mindedness. I have to say that as long as BV Islanders continue to look INWARD ...they will be slower to progress, evolve, not be brave enough to challenge each other to do better in business and political cultures and deal with REAL Issues. A LABOUR minister one IGNORED a letter from an employer which PROVED - in clear ENGLISH writing - that the employer was merely promising to have a local understudy and EVENYUALLY replace a BRITISH expat...in order to secure successive work permits for SAID expats. Wasnt that minister complicit or equal in disenfranchising locals? shouldn't that company been sanctioned or run out of BVI with a public shaming?

      THE minister DID NOTHING.

The labour department also has a hard time making employers surrender the release letters of immigrant who are no longer under their employ- against the law ...but locals love locals to NO ENd or STANDARD...and local EMPATHY TRUMPS FAIRNESS, LOVE AND KINDNESS. sad.

      MEANWHILE ...( bATMAN INTERLUDE SONG..LOL):

United States: BVI Islanders have a strong presence at the West Indian American Day Carnival in Brooklyn, New York (every Labor Day weekend) and the Miami Carnival in Florida (every October).

Canada: In Toronto, the BVI diaspora gathers during the Toronto Caribbean Carnival (formerly Caribana), which takes place in August and is North America's largest Caribbean cultural festival.

      AND...

During the summer, the BVI London Office organizes local UK events to coincide with the BVI Emancipation Festival, giving the diaspora a chance to celebrate their heritage, enjoy local food, and connect with fellow islanders without flying back to the Caribbean.

    Just a note:
some people leave negative comments because that moment of tearing someone else down is the only time they feel psychologically taller than their own life. A fulfilled person usually creates, builds, learns, connects, or grows. But a deeply unhappy person can become addicted to criticism because it temporarily distracts them from their own emptiness, insecurity, regret, or lack of purpose.

And before you leave a hateful or negative comment, ask yourself a hard question: what kind of inner condition makes someone stop their day just to discourage, mock, or belittle another…. because healthy souls usually create more than they destroy.

Asians such as Phillipinos are created and socialized differently and to enter a country and establish their own culture as if dem still home is outright disrespectful to not only the people of the BVI but to every Caribbean Islander that, not only live here but are now unable to find meaningful employment because of their influx.

This government better reverse this $#!+ before they call another election or they may all have to go live in the Phillipines with their sides and employs.

I am deeply let down by how many bloggers are interpreting this situation. To clarify, the Filipino community is simply putting on a show to celebrate themselves; there’s no indication that they aim to dominate the BVI or even participate in a parade. What’s wrong with a community wanting to organize a fundraiser in this manner? This doesn’t detract from BVI pride; it promotes inclusion. Would there be an issue if the Filipinos chose to host a Filipino-themed party instead? When we bring in international artists and prioritize them over our own local talent, paying them generously for a short performance, why isn’t there any outrage or calls for boycotts? We don’t see that happening. Yet, when it comes to the Filipino community—who are generally known for their kindness and respect—some people in the BVI choose to belittle them, which is unfair.

What a SNAFU ( Situation Normsl All F’d UP). The Flips have violated the signature Virgin Islander warmth and welcome. They have abused the Host/ immigrant(diaspora) diplomatic relationship/bubble. Immigrants/diaspora/expatriates are the informal ambassadors for their homeland.

The diaspora typically serve as informal ambassadors to promote their homeland culture, heritage, and ethos to the host nation. This action by the expatriate Phillopinos cross the line. Was the pageant solely for Phillopinos? Nuff said. If true that speaks volume, flashing red.

The Philippines Islands (PI) is a low-middle income emerging country. It is comprise approximately 7641 islands, approximately 118 million population, size 115, 831 square mikes., approximate GDP $494B, GDP per capita appropriate $4000.

Imo the majority of the anti pageant sentiment is coming from trolls who want to stir up divisiveness. My view is that ordinary Virgin Islanders have no view one way or the other if they want to host a pageant. On a separate note it appears that the people of The Philipines love pageants and most often their contestants do very well in international pageants. Perhaps it is just a way to remind the community residing here of their home especially if it would be another issue if they wished to participate in the national pageants in the VI (and if they're entitled to, they should if they wish). It would be great if the trolls stop stirring up divisiveness on a non-issue. Virgin Islanders and Belongers do not take the bait. They want to portray us as non-tolerant xenophobic ppl which is, in general, far from the truth!

Strangers are suppose to integrate and assimilate into the communities they migrated to; not come in and isolate themselves and start promoting their own communities and events. I really hate the BVI now. The energy is gone. That nostalgic vibe I use to get everytime I come home is long gone. Whenever I come home now strangers look at me like I'm the stranger. I am not surprised to see where we have reached on this issue - it has long been in the making and it is troubling. The issue of persons migrating to our islands is one thing - it gets quite concerning when we see groups like the Anegada Filipino Community on Facebook, the many Filipino superettes popping up, and now this.
BVIslanders, we have to keep our heads on and not allow our children and our future generations to be overwhelmed by the growing numbers of nationals of other countries in our territory. I hope our elected officials are not keeping their heads buried deep in the sand, but instead are observing what is unfolding and taking steps to address this and any similar situation that may currently exist. It must be regulated - and soon.
And don't get me wrong - this bold trend - with migrants from other countries is happening all over, and the locals in other countries are complaining, too, and addressing issues that crop up before they become 'mandemics'.
Don't say I did not warn you.

The pageant is called “Miss Philippines BVI” because they are Filipinos living here in the British Virgin Islands. There’s nothing wrong with that. People celebrate their culture everywhere in the world, and it doesn’t take away from being in the BVI.

Some of y’all really need to stop being stuck in the past and turning everything into an issue. If you’re truly educated, you should know how to judge situations fairly and understand the difference between cultural celebration and disrespect.

The Filipino community contributes a lot to this territory, and celebrating their identity shouldn’t offend anybody. Respect works both ways.

For clarification regarding the recently published article, we would like to provide accurate information and address the following matters:

First and foremost, the “Little Miss Philippines in the BVI” and “Miss Philippines in the BVI” are internal Association activities only. These are non-profit, non-fundraising events, and no tickets are being sold. These activities are simply segments of our program in celebration  of our 15th Anniversary of The Filipino Association of British Virgin Islands (TFABVI) and the 128th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2026.

Every year during the month of June, the Association celebrates its anniversary by gathering the Filipino community, as mandated by our Association bylaws. The purpose of this celebration is to strengthen camaraderie and unity not only among Filipinos but also with other nationalities within the British Virgin Islands community. In fact, we warmly welcome and invite people of all nationalities to participate in our events and activities.

The Association has no intention, plans, or involvement in organizing, hosting, or conducting any large-scale commercial pageant in the British Virgin Islands.

In addition, the Association actively promotes inclusivity through sports activities and community services involving people from various nationalities. For example, during our coastal clean-up drives and other volunteer initiatives, we encourage participation from all interested residents, including students within the territory.

Once again, we emphasize that these pageant activities are purely internal events intended for entertainment, and community-building purposes. In fact, last year we also held a male version of the activity, which served as an informative and engaging platform, especially for newcomers to the island. One of the highlights was the Question-and-Answer segment, where participants were able to share meaningful insights and experiences.

Lastly, we would like to express our deepest respect for the heritage, culture, and traditions of the beautiful Virgin Islands. The Association remains committed to fostering harmony, cultural appreciation, and positive relationships within the wider BVI community.

    Richard Cister
    Vice President (Internal)
    TFABVI I

@FABVI, note that perceptions are sometimes worst than the act. Visitors to a location must pay attention to the social friction in a community. And the advice is to avoid doing anything to exacerbate the friction. Your celebration might have been well-intentioned but as you see you may have rooted up an ants nest. You must find out what is the root cause of the reaction.
  • think about it (08/05/2026, 17:57) Like (15) Dislike (15) Reply
This pageant is simply a way of celebrating the Filipino Association’s 15th anniversary in the BVI. It’s about sharing their culture and bringing people together, NOT about replacing or competing with local events.

In a place like the VI where many cultures live together, events like this are part of cultural diversity, and they can also help the local economy in simple ways by supporting local businesses and generating additional income for venues, restaurants, shops, transportation, and other local providers within the community. From the event preparations to the actual celebration, attendees and participants spend on food, transportation, clothing, beauty services, and other event-related needs, creating economic activity that benefits both small businesses and workers in the area.

At the end of the day, it’s a cultural celebration in a diverse community that also supports small business activity. There are bigger issues that affect everyday life and the focus should be on building a more livable island for everyone, where understanding and respect move people forward, not division or hate. #BVILOVE

Do you think the philipino association in America could have a show called Miss Philipino USA?! Do you think the guyanese would have a Miss Guyanese BVI, or the Santo Dominicans would have Miss Santo Dominican BVI? No one is against the philipinos celebrating and sharing their culture, but that sort of branding should be reserved for the BVI pageant industry.

Richard Cister (TFABVI) for clearing up some of the concerns surrounding this particular event. As @FABVI highlighted, "Your celebration might have been well-intented but as you see you may have rooted up an ants nest. You must find out what is the root cause of the reaction."

As a possible step towards understanding the root cause for the "social friction," and "out of respect for the heritage, culture, and traditions of the beautiful Virgin Islands (Richard Cister, TFABVI).

As the spokesperson, or a designated spokesperson, may want to proactively reach out to a few of the community talk show programs (for a wider community outreach before the show) to bridge the gaps and misunderstanding between what maybe miscontrued as cultural inclusivity. "Perception is sometimes worst than the act (@FABVI)." FOR #BVILOVE

Good idea. Getting a better understanding of their culture communicated directly can certainly ease of the pinned up tension in the environment. As a people who is being marginalized, compared to, disparaged, undermined, and devalued. Our children who return from abroad and find such difficulties for entry into the job market, becoming discouraged, and having to leave the island in search of work elsewhere, is disheartening. Opened conversations of cultural diversity, inclusion and possibly working together to bridge gaps, is a welcome suggestion.

If the trend, statistically, continues you all will be the largest ethnic group on the island within the next 5-10 years. Let's talk about it. Not to divide, but to engage in win-win solutions: customer service mentorship programs for the youths, cutural exchange programs, etc. Let's talk.

What has the philipino community done for the BVI to be able to attach its name to their show. Phillipino BVI gives the view that the territory is somehow okay with this. Its a cultural conflict. They need to change the name of the show to maybe incorporate the national flower of their homeland or something else.
