First District Rep. knocks NDP on alleged conflict of interest
In a repeat of previously stated claims which struck at the National Democratic Party’s (NDP’s) alleged activities in the realms of conflict of interest, Hon. Fahie questioned whose interest the party was really serving. He was at the time delivering his Annual First District Report on January 18, 2014, at the Capoon’s Bay Recreational Ground.
“They should excuse themselves from such meetings but how can they?” Hon. Fahie questioned during his recent report to the people of the First District.
“If they excuse themselves then there will not be enough of them left in Cabinet to allow the Cabinet meeting to be held. Anyone who touches this topic they want to label you as public enemy number one. Whose interest are they really serving?”
He made reference to a case lost to government recently in the courts and said, “It is a known fact that there are Cabinet members who are Ministers that have shares in the said company/organization.”
According to Hon. Fahie, the same organization exercised its rights and appealed the judgment in the Appeal Courts and won the appeal and were subsequently awarded a judgment of over ten million dollars.
“I am not against the company getting what is theirs but I seriously question the course of action of the Ministers in Cabinet not insisting that the matter be referred to the Privy Council.”
He charged that the NDP government failed to try to secure the public’s purse of just over ten million dollars.
“Why did they decide to just pay and not challenge the judgment at the Privy Council level? “ Hon. Fahie questioned.
“If we won the matter at that level, then fine; and if the organization won the matter at that level, then so be it. At least the appearance of transparency would have been sought. Will this be the course of action that this NDP Administration takes for all matters with similar nature? Or will this course of action only be done for matters where they have interest? This is not a Government in the sunshine. This a government that wants to bully us and keep us blind.”
He again called for the NDP Administration to come clean with the people of the Virgin Islands and cut the political rhetoric.
Hon. Fahie added, “I have no doubt that this government honestly feels that they are jamming; But despite what they are trying to tell us and programme our minds with, when I look at how this government is handling our affairs versus what is mandated of them in the Financial Management Regulations, I can safely conclude that this government is not jamming; they are jammed in.”

Andrew, people Elected NDP in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011 knowing full well their ties to the investment club etc. If they don't want the conflict then don't vote for it. This is just old campaign propaganda from last elections. Stop pretending as if this is some big secret. Most voters know who these guys are and what they're involved in and still voted for them.
Nah do ntn more dan waste people time and money
If there are absolute facts that these conflicts exist, then it is incumbent upon Fahie to make those facts available to the public. The people have a right to be privy to such information. We should also hold VIP accountable for their actions as well.
