FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- The US Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday morning, April 5, 2020 announced the first coronavirus death in the USVI.

The Department of Health has not provided information on which district the death occurred. Government House Communications Director, Richard Motta, told this publication that the Department of Health was waiting to notify next of kin before revealing location.

On Friday, April 3, 2020 Governor Albert A. Bryan Jr said three people were hospitalised territory-wide, with two on St Thomas and one on St Croix. "All of these patients are in stable condition and none of them are using ventilators at this time," Mr Bryan said at the time.

So far, DOH said it has tested 266 people, with 42 results returning positive (28 on St Thomas, 12 on St Croix and two on St John)

Interestingly, while there were 18 results pending as of Sunday, the Department of Health, according to the VITEMA alert, currently has no tests pending for St Croix. There are 15 tests pending for St Thomas and 3 on St John.

It is so sad what is happening. If travellers stayed where they were this number would be much less. They come, move around and spread this. I understand some students have to come home Ok, but an uninfected community cannot spread the virus. It came from outside in.

    Sad

These are serious times we are living in. My people now is the time to start examing your life to determine if you are following God's will for your life. Now is the time to pray and seek God's forgiveness and ask him to cover you, your families and this territory from this virus.

But it would be good to know if this person that died was old or young, healthy or had their health compromised in any way. Seems very odd how they quickly announce a death to scare the hell out of us but dont tell us any of the conditions the poor person died under.

My dear BVI people, stop cursing the government.

stop cusing the police for enforcing the lockdown.

    Stay indoors-stay lockdown.

Covid-19 is real in all parts of the USVI/BVI and the world.

      @ ok

You can afford to stay away but what about those who cannot? What about those who have rent to pay? Mortgage and other loans? Jobs? Businesses?

Legally enforceable quarantine is the answer.

The true character of a Country is revealed on how it treats its most vulnerable.

Hardly a surprise ! The USVI has not taken this seriously enough. It seems to be business as usual with them.

BVI Government is doing an amazing job with their decisions in this very difficult time . Let's support them and show the rest of the world how a community works. Let's stay inside and get this nightmare behind us ! It takes everyone to make it work and we can.

I realize that Winston can’t come over to see for himself, but right now in Rock City, only essential businesses are open, no cruise ships, no tourists, no bars, two or three flights a day mostly empty. People staying in under threat of curfew that nobody wants. Few cars on the road. Those few people you see respectfully keep their distance. It’s been that way for more than a week. That ain’t business as usual, other than we getting used to the new normal.

Sorry to hear about the death of the person and I pray that god provides solace in this time of grievance.

It would be nice to get some more details on whether the person had a pre-existing condition and their age. USVI has tested 266 , 42 of which were positive 1 death and 38 recovered. They have a high percentage of recovery and they have tested a fair bit of people for a decent sample so that is good. Remember their sea and air ports have remained open to travelers throughout and no curfew so this could be much worse. Social distancing measures must be working with businesses and people practicing strict adherence.

Sure stats don't tell the whole story but not bad at all.

I kept reading that 5g is to be blamed, i read it so often i went to do my research... When 5G was rolled out the WHO " world health organization" did a research using the radiation effects using Rats... The research proved that Male Rats shows signs of cancer symtoms while femle Rats shows no signs.....Now.. Just last night on CNN a scientist says that this desease affect males more that of every 10 death their is 9 men 1 woman women recover faster than men, there is something in a woman make up that fights the desease off....Ok... Goes back to my research using the Rat experiment....To Add 5G were turned on in these big mostly affected cities and countries between middle to late last year.... These are the facts of my research. U can do the same.. all im giving is my findings im not saying this is to be blamed or what is to be blamed...
