The Financial Controller is responsible for the hotel€™s accounting and financial management requirements managing the accounting department procurement function and electronic data processing systems. To assist the Director of Finance with meaningful and timely information on the status of the hotel€™s performance. To assist proactively with cost containment, revenue enhancement, profit improvement opportunities and safeguarding of the company€™s assets.

Reporting Relationship:  The Financial Controller reports to the Director of Finance and his/her representatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BA or BS degree in accounting or finance.
  • Three years of experience in the industry.
  • Required statistics math level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently.

Physical Requirements:

  • The Financial Controller may be required to work some overtime hours to attend meetings of the Board, special events, and during specific periods of the accounting cycle such as the Annual Audit
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours per day.  Walking and standing are occasionally required.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.

Duties:

  • Assist in development and management of operating and capital budgets while providing guidance to Department managers on financial and operational control concerns.
  • Establish firm and best practice procurement policies and procedures including ordering, shipping, and receiving and inventories, importation and efficient processing of import duties.
  • Assist payables in coordination with Executive Committee.
  • Coordinate and review monthly financial statements for accuracy and monitor coding of cash receipts.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare annual depreciation schedules for furniture, equipment, building supplies, revisions, and 

alterations.

  • Assist in the development and maintaining of financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Assist Director with internal daily audits of cash deposits, transfers, and preparation for and monitoring of the capital budget.
  • Directly oversee Accounts Receivable, Credit and Night Audit functions.
  • Review and approve all ledger account reconciliations including, but not limited to, bank statements, assets liabilities and credit cards.
  • Lead hotel management team with cost and operational controls.
  • Prepare financial reports, prepare utilities, and telephone accruals, monitor records of inventory, and 

ensure compliance with all established billing and credit standards.

  • Review and approve tax returns to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Monitor, approve, and prepare daily payroll accounts and issue all paychecks.
  • Any other duties assigned by the manager or supervisor.
