‘Blanket prohibition’ on spearguns in VI to be removed- Cabinet
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Amidst a public outcry over the recent arrest of three local fishermen, the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has reviewed and considered an amendment to the Virgin Islands Fisheries Act, 1997 to remove the ‘blanket’ ban on spearguns.

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- The District 1 Representative, Dr the Honourable Karl Dawson, has said in the absence of the Food Security Bill, the easiest way to address fishing restrictions in the Virgin Islands (VI) would be to amend a 1997 bill.
Popular local fishermen arrested for allegedly using illegal fishing methods
CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- Well-known local fishermen from the western end of Tortola, Albert Stoutt and his sons Andrew and Zacchari were reportedly arrested and charged on Friday, March 20, 2026, for alleged illegal fishing.
