ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The much favoured BVI Basketball Federation’s Summer League is in its peak but had a spark of bad blood this weekend when some players were involved in a heated fight.

On Saturday night, June 1, 2013 things turned bitter during the final game for the night. It was a tough matchup between Kings and East and, according to information reaching Virgin Islands News Online, a fight broke out among players and resulted in a number of spectators also getting involved.

One of the players involved in the altercation is allegedly the son of an executive member of the BVI Basketball Federation, a source said. This information has not been confirmed, however, the President of the Federation Byron 'Chucky' Hodge did confirm there was indeed a fight.

Hodge said the incident did not adversely affect the night's games as the incident occurred during the final game for the night. Asked if any fans were involved, he said "If any fan was involved it would have been to help to stop the fight."

This news site was also told that the fight was so intense in the Multi Purpose Sports Complex that it warranted the intervention of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF). Hodge said that to the best of his knowledge no one was seriously injured and there were no arrests made.

He did say, however, that the Federation took the undisciplined behaviour of the players very seriously and has suspended with immediate effect "all those who were involved [in the fight]." Mr Hodge declined to give names and further details as he said the Federation was wary of the effect divulging names could have on the players themselves and future games.

Contacted, Public Relations Officer of the RVIPF Ms Diane Drayton also confirmed that the RVIPF was alerted to the fight and they did respond but not legal action was not taken against anyone as everyone refused to cooperate with the Police. Efforts to reach the coaches of the two teams involved proved unsuccessful.

The game did continue to the official end and paved the way for a smooth transition to the next scheduled round of games.

What does the chairman of the gym has to do with what transpired in the gym that night? It's persons like you, whose minds are so backward that you can't draw any sensible conclusions to the real issues at hand. I pity persons like you. To put someone into the gutter, you mustr first be in the gutter!

Had you been better able to convey what you meant in the first instance I would not have drawn the wrong conclusion. I am adult enough to say I am sorry though.

I hope this don't turn into a gun battle for revenge. People don't fight with fists and stones anymore, they want to pick up a gun. Let's keep the peace people. Every now and then we disagree, but let's fight fair, this too shall pass.

No gun battle here. All the adults involved have already spoken to one another and apologized for their actions. I think it was handled well. As the President mentioned on ZROD this morning, none of the people involved are of violent nature.

Handled well? You must be crazy! Both benches cleared and you say that was handled well? Don't let Byron fool you with the hogwash statements. Were all parties involved contacted before they were suspended? Did he get both teams' stories before making a decision? What are his suspensions based on? He say/she say and a video clip starring two players? C'mon son! You telling me in that whole brawl only 6 players were found guilty? Then he got the nerve to say fans were parting fight like he was there! Yea I saw the video clip that started with one player kicking another but I'm hearing it didn't start there. That's just where the only footage they have stated and it was the last few seconds.

Please note that the video clip was taken during the fight and did not start off the fight. if you going off the clip and not sight, then your statement is invalid.

FANATIC do you think the two teams gonna admit they were fighting? You a real a-hole. Thats what the referees are there for, to give testimony on what they saw happened. The video had nothing to do with Bryon decision I am sure. Big Al aint no east end man that's why his team didnt fight or defend him. They were mainly trying to stop the fight. Bryon dont have to contact the players for no story or to ask what happened. He dealt with the coaches of both teams and had them relay whatever the decision was. If Big Al was a real east man, you would have seen a real brawl. If you want to know what his decision was based on, why dont you call him, he aint hard to find.

Screens & picks are part of basketball if you can't take them don't play, it's that simple. I don't mind that the Chairman defended himself its just how he did it.

There's so many guys who are considered "bad" at ball b/c they jump high, run fast, or father's were stars but can't play the game. Pick & Roll, Head fake dribble pull up, Reverse pivot drop step, euro step learn to do these things b4 considering yourself a ball player & starting fights for foolishness.

Disappointed b/c some of these youths get all the opportunities without working for it, & then at the first sign of adversity they crumble under pressure.
